Think it's probably down to the fact that UK television is dictated by the prudes at Ofcom. MTV are afraid someone might say a naughty word before the watershed... They used to show the whole thing live with the rest of Europe until about 5/6 years ago.

I hate the way they still advertise it as 'live' though, even though it's on an hour delay. Surely, a 10 second delay would be adequate?

Lucky for me, I got to watch HD live clean feed of the show via satellite...

Just saw the list of winners in today's newspaper. Jesus, what a pile of shite. In MTV's desperate attempts to appeal to an ever younger audience the list of award winners would embarrass anyone over the age of twelve.

I know MTV has always been a youth channel but I didn't realise they were going for the CBeebies crowd these days.

Daniel Sperling of this very site wrote about this like it was an actual, real streaker. And I thought this man couldn't get any more dense after reading some of his brainless remarks on last night's X Factor Results blog.

Saw him last year in Manchester and he was absolutely bloody sensational, blows our 'talent pool' out the water and he didn't even win American Idol!
I'm just watching a repeat of the EMA's just to see Adam, didn't know he was going to be performing with Queen. Although Brian May has always been a huge fan!

As for the Awards themselves aren't they all or nearly all voted for by the public hence the less than obvious winners. It's not really a reflection of anything except who has the most fanatical fanbase motivated to vote.

Snow Patrol performing one of my favourite songs of the year right now

I'm a little surprised Katy Perry got Best Live Act but it shouldn't be scoffed at, she puts on a HECK of an entertaining show live and she CAN sing. She has the crowd eating out of her hand, it may not be who you think of when you think of amazing live acts but as a pop artist she is at the very top of the game when it comes to live shows so she deserves recognition for it.

I have no problems with Gaga winning (whether it was or was not deserved) but Katy Perry for live act? I know she puts on an amazing show (I really enjoyed myself and am desperate to go again) but surely vocals play a key part in the voting?

EDIT: Still proud she won though, she is one of my faves too.

I thought the MTV awards were voted for by fans? Rock music isn't as popular as it was, at least in terms of the mainstream. And MTV has long been abandoned by the rock crowd for exactly that fact - it's seen as too mainstream.

The majority of the awards were certainly fan voted and particularly internet voted with as far as I know no restriction on the number of times you could vote.

I accept Katy isn't the best vocalist but she can sing, and I maintain her show is an amazing spectacle, she even got good reviews from the notoriously stuffy Guardian so it's a little unfair to suggest it wasn't on merit. Given she was up against Coldplay, Foos, RHCP and Gaga, only her and Gaga were only ever going to be possible wins of a FAN voted award, if it was a panel then no she probably wouldn't win but as it's a fan thing I can't really see Foo Fighters or RHCP even being AWARE of such a vote existing let alone persisting with a daily vote like I'm sure Gaga and Perry fans did.

So Katy won because she had the most fans who bothered to vote!

And Adele did win something btw, she won Best UK and Ireland Act but don't think it was presented on the night. She beat Coldplay, Jessie J, Kasabian and Florence

They only presented the award to the outright worldwide winner, Big Bang.

Agreed. Her performances are entertaining, even if they are at the expense of her vocals. Very few can do both at the same time.

And on that subject ...................

I totally agree.

He's not their new lead singer but I wish he was. He was asked by Brian and Roger to perform with them last night. I'd pay good money for a couple of hours of that.

I completely agree with the comments being made about Adam Lambert. If Queen want to tour again, I think he's the man for the job. Great vocal range, stage presence, ''campness'' if you will, but without looking like a tribute act. Classy, to be honest, I'm not even a fan of his.

*sigh*

The EMA's were just SOOO dull and uneventhful There was no star quality, no surprises and I can't even describe how bad I felt when I realized that the most anticipated act was Justin Bieber There were some good vocal performances, but apart from that nothing impressive to show that this was an awards show and not a late night talk show It just needed someone to really carry the show, someone HUGE

Anyway, the nominees and the winners were laughable.I understand that they pretty much hand out awards to the people that can be there to perform or at least make an appearance, but they don't have to make it THAT obvious.GaGa, Bieber and Bruno were the 3 big winners and all 3 performed At least try to hide your policies, MTV As far as Katy is concenred, singing is arguably 50% of an artist's performing style, so if Katy yells, yodells, screams and cracks on stage, then regardless of how good the staging, the costumes and the effects are, she doesn't deserve the "best live" award. And I don't even dislike her...

I'm just waiting for the American Music Awards in 2 weeks and I'm hoping for better performances there

Surely the EMAs, should be Europe only? It's bad enough America trying to take over the world already. I mean Justin Beiber? We all know this is an all hype and no substance act and Lady Gaga has really gone down. No wonder music is in such a bad state.

The EMA's are about Europeans awarding their favourite acts, not awarding their favourite European acts.

I don't know what show you were watching or what your definition of huge is, when you have some of the currently most successful male and female performers in the world up there.

I saw some very good performances, including from people I didn't expect to enjoy, and don't get me started on the finale. The best I've seen in an awards show in years. The only thing wrong with it is that it wasn't long enough.

Your post just seems to be a very biased promotion for the cheesefest and exercise in rigging that is the AMAs.

Finally got around to watching The Queen/Adam Lambert performance, after making the mistake of only recording the programme and not the programme after the performance overlapped into, recorded the early hours repeat last night.

WOW. Adam and eventual winner Kris Allen both performed with Queen on the American Idol finale and you could tell then that Brian and Roger were blown away by Adam. He's just got even better since then, a phenomenal vocalist. I love him.

As a huge fan of Freddie, I totally agree and I didn't think I'd even heard of Adam Lambert before last week, though having bought his album yesterday I wondered why I recognised Time for Miracles and then remembered it's the song over the closing credits of 2012.

There was nothing biased about what I said, I just didn't enjoy the show at all.It seemed very sloppy, not exciting, boring and uneventhful. And I don't mind the cheesiness, I know what to expect from award shows. And why would I promote the AMA's??I'm not American, I don't care about their winners, awards and nominees. All I know is that the line up of performers is actually something that makes me want to watch it.Besides, in my first post that you quoted, I didn't even praise the EMA's at all!All I said is that I'm waiting for them and that I'm HOPING for better performances there. How the hell is that promotion? I don't get your post at all...

GaGa is indeed huge, but her performance didn't live up to the standards of a high profile act's show It was a cool performance, but she could have pretty much done this at any other show around the world. And Justin Bieber is "huge" for a very specific audience, which may seem powerful, but it isn't that large, so I wouldn't call him a HUGE artist.Bruno is adequately popular and his performance was good too, but like the entire night, it just wasn't something I expected from one of the 5 most massive award shows in the world...That's all...

Oh please, as a rock fan myself, 30 Seconds To Mars are nothing more than the pet project of a vain moviestar. Look at any YT video of 30 Seconds To Mars and the majority of the comments will be about how "hawt" Jared Leto is.
