hi
i have 2 budgies i brought about 8 months ago! they still have no interest in coming out of there cage for a fly. They still wont go on my finger ether. so i have decided to get a huge cage after xmas so they can get the best of there life but still being in a cage, so the question is do i breed them for more company (how many eggs do they lay?) or do i maybe get them 2 more budgies from the pet shop or do i let them have the huge cage to them selfs?
so many questions i know!
thanks xx

My budgie is so excited to come out in the mornings that he is clinging to the side of the bars and going "kkakakaakaka".

Then he flies up into the curtains and I turn the playstation tv on for him to listen to "Judge Judy".

When you add to the flock keep the new ones seperate in a different room for about a month. You never know how many diseases the new birds might have.

Budgies will breed if you give them a nesting box. They are romantic little fellas.

It is best to get hand tame budgies from budgie breeders as pet shop budgies are usually miserable mill birds and they don't get much attention in the shop and so will always be dull and boring while the hand tame ones are always livelier and more interesting. The older ones will usually copy what they do. Then it will be fun getting them to go to bed.

My budgies like to fly around my room, but they're not tame at all.

They're really scared of me.

I have two. They're more interested in each other.

If you think getting more budgies will make them more tame then far from it.

If you really want to tame a budgie you need just one, but you have to give it lots and lots of time otherwise it's not fair on the bird. I don't really agree with just keeping one budgie.

Play sound. Anything. TV, Radio.

Mine are so quieter, but if I put the TV on or sing to them then they start churping straight away.

Put the TV or or a music channel and I think you'll have far greater success of them coming out of their cage to explore and fly.

Good luck

And like stud said, you know when they want to come out their cage.

When mine want to come out they'll make so much noise and flap around their cage frantically.

Not true. If you want to get a budgie to talk, then it has to be a male, it's much much easier if it's alone and you have to spend hours with it, and it'll then mimic. It is cruel to keep only one unless you have a lot of spare time to spend with it. Need I remind you madlh that you were very keen on keeping a solo budgie until several FMs repeatedly explained why it was a bad idea?

I've got a pair of budgies, male & female, the male is completely hand-tame, mimics certain whistles and calls, will come to his name, will jump between perches on command, and will ring his bell on command.
The female will come onto my hand if bribed with millet, but hasn't learnt any tricks yet, she's much more shy than the male.

However, in terms of free-flight, she's better at flying than the male, but is very stubborn at going back into the cage, and it normally ends up being a battle of wits. The male is much better, and will just go back in if put in front of the cage door.
