Oh, and according to the Beeb, Matt Flint will be performing in place of Artem in tonight's pro dance.

No doubt when unscripted Bruce is still a real entertainer and gent.

Brucie does a whole warm up routine which no-one on the TV gets to see. He's actually a LOT better doing stuff off the cuff than scripted and that's why he looks so wooden sometimes on the live show. He's really a brillaint live entertainer but he doesn't like being directed too much

Brilliant! Say what you will about Brucie, but he's the same age as my Dad, and I'd like to see him trying to jive...

I have gone on record every year that Bruce is past his sell by date but this made me laugh...I have no objection to the man personally he just makes me cringe somtimes....but this routine just made me laugh so much....bless his heart

I know Brucie drives me nuts but fair play to the man - I can't do that at my age, so there's no way I'd ever be able to do it at his!

Holly is actually better than Bruce at the jive.

Holly has been rehearsing all week.
Bruce is trying to follow the choreography she's doing with no rehearsal on his part.
I'd say he's doing pretty well, all things considered.

I may grumble about bruce's gags but you gotta love that. Mr Trooper to the fore!

I agree with this, Cheryl. Not that I've seen the live show, mind, but your point has been made by many others who have been lucky enough to get tickets. Envious.com. It's also backed up by his appearance on ITT last year in Final week, when he was on cracking form. He is ill-served by the dreadful 'jokes' and the bliddy autocue.

peeve you are right ! The show format doesn't really suit Bruce - but what can they do ? He is phenomenal for his age - I'd say he looks a darm sight better at his age than Tess does at hers ! At least he dresses appropriately.

Where Bruce comes into his own is when something goes wrong - because while Tess will be waiting for instrucitons via the ear piece, Brucie has already taken control of the situation and made the best of it.

It's a real shame that so much of his skill and talent is dumbed down by the really, really bad jokes - just cut them out Beeb! Nobody wants them and it does seem that week after week, Bruce doesn't want to read them! Stick to the stuff that he's good at!

Bless him, he's always been a rubbish dancer, and still is. But I love the fact that he tried.

In Europe couples dance well into their 80s so I don't think this is remarkable in any way.

I think that's what I find endearing - he didn't have to do that. It looked like a spontaneous and even chivalrous act. The gossip I've picked up (mostly on DS) would indicate that Brucie is very involved pre-show, whereas Tess just turns up on cue, switches on and does her thang.

Oh, and I agree about people dancing into their 80s - no reason why they shouldn't but, at the risk of sounding patronising, I still find it remarkable.

BIB: This was highlighted when Mark and Karen got tangled up in their microphones and the sound engineer came on and Bruce started dancing with her!!

Yes, a great moment. I laughed too when Tess handed over to him and shouted rather sharply, "BRUCE"!! He looked around and said, "for a minute I thought she was calling her dog."
Due to the two examples above, he's actually more gifted that a comedian working tightly to a script.
Some actors fail miserably as well when dependent on their own personality. Notably, one Miss Jennifer Grey.
