Male dancers told to bring more sexual performances
Andy Joannou
06-11-2011
While I'm sure no one will have issue with Harry 'sexing' up his performances, how do you feel about this?

I think that while the couples should have chemistry with each other, we're not here to watch them romp - we're watching them dance and feel that should be the most important thing.

That said, I didn't really buy into Jason's dance. It was a bit bland and definitely lacked something.

Isn't it sexual chemistry within the dance (where the dance requires it) rather than anything else (remembering that many dances are meant to be telling a story about two people).

Quite; and without it being blatantly offensive to viewers

I don't think they meant "crotch thrusting."

None of those quotes indicate the male dancers being told to give more sexual performances?

Yes, I think that either the DS headline should have specifically referred to dance performances, or it is being a little disingenuous or sensational.

Simulated sex on a Saturday evening from androids and peacocks?

Super.

So it is true! Arlene "I just want raw sex" Philips is replacing Evil Moira Ross!

Quite. Maybe the DS headline writer meant sexy performances but doesn't understand the difference in meaning between sexy and sexual. A sexy dance performance is still dance while a sexual performance is performance of sex, meaning sexual activity.

Besides, the judges seemed to mean a dance performance that suggested more emotion, connection and romance or passion or desire.

Doesn't this post belong in the Lazy Journalism thread?

Widdy is right, not very good for the kids watching.

The Digital Spy article has the misleading headline.
Men were simply told to connect more with their partners.

Couldn't agree more- altho he is clearly getting onus points for it rather than his dancing!

Aside from the article I don't particularly think the dancers need to be any more unrevealed than they already are (and this coming from no prude). This year I've been missing seeing the men in some of the traditonal (or typical) outfits that we associate with Latina and Ballroom dancing. I don't think we've seen as many tail-suits as before in the Ballroom this year as before (and sometimes not even with a jacket, just a shirt and waistcoat). I also like when the guys wear long sleeves in Latin, I think the all black cover (apart from the peeking chest) was a better. Again, no prude (trust me).

Yes, not for the first time in recent months - a sloppy and misleading article from DS.
