Personally I prefer Yamaha amps over Onkyo. Yamaha have always been top AV manufacturers. The current x71 range is superb.

The 471 is a great amp It gets some great reviews.

- if you can stretch another £80 you can get the 571. Slightly more refined sound and 7.1 ability.

Just out of interest what speakers were you planning to pair with the new amp. I would imagine the Onkyo fronts and the optional centre and rear pair (if you have them) could be used but I'm not sure the HTX 22 sub can be used as a conventional sub bearing in mind it has an integrated AV amp on board as well.

In any case if the reason for changing the amp is a buzz then trying to use the HTX 22 sub with another amp probably won't cure it as it's likely to still buzz through the sub speaker as you'll still be using the HTX 22's amp.

Personally I would not be insulting an amp of the class of the Yamaha with a set of speakers like those. I consider them a poor match for the amp.

The other concern is that the speakers appear to be 3ohm and the amp is rated into 6ohm. It might not be a issue but driving an amp into a lower load than it is designed for is a potential cause of problems.

I would be considering a better set of speakers than the Samsungs to get the best out of the amp. But that is very likely to add up to 200 quid to your budget very easily.

An alternative which is just 30 quid or so over the 300 you've suggested is to downgrade the amp a little to get a better set of speakers. For example

http://www.richersounds.com/product/...ama-nsp285-blk

To my mind that would produce a better sound than using the Samsung's you were planing to use.

no.
Those speakers will not be appropriate for any AV Amplifier.
Damage could be caused to speaker or amp as well as poor quality sound. You wont get the benefit of increased sound quality from a dedicated amp with speakers like that.

chrisjr is right, you will be better getting a dedicated 5.1 speaker package for a AV amplifier.

Yamahas entry level packs are excellent value for money.

however when you start to hit speakers over £200 + you will begin to get some great sound. Its best however to start with a budget and in future upgrade things like speakers etc when you can afford it.

The 371 amp could deal with speakers up to £400 - beyond that £400-1000+ you would need a higher quality amp to get the best from them.

Do you have time to compare the Yamaha NS- P40 with the
NS-P285 speaker package on Richer Sounds , what do you think would be best to go with the RXV 371 amp ,When you get time that is ?

Richer Sounds are generally better then the out of town sheds like Comet and Currys for letting you play with the kit. If you ask very nicely they may let you try a few combinations in the store to get a feel for what is best for you. Yamaha do have a good reputation for speaker systems. I haven't heard either the systems you mention myself but have used other Yamaha speakers and they have usually sounded pretty decent.

The next step up from the Yamaha's would be the Tannoy SFX5.1 but at a shade under 200 quid may be out of your budget. Tannoy do make some very nice speakers (which is why I have a pair of Tannoys in front of me as I type ). Worth considering but as i say perhaps a wallet stretch too far

But ideally you should listen for yourself. What I or anyone else like may not be to your taste and vice versa. So anything I recommend you could find absolutely unbearable to listen to.

For £350 quid an alternative system is this

http://www.richersounds.com/product/...5/onky-hts5405

This is an amp and speaker bundle which is pretty decent value for money. The amp is a close relative of the one I use myself, and you won't be disappointed by it if it comes close to mine.

I have the yamaha rxv567 an it's great, keeps an eye on hot deals uk website as I got mine cheaper because of that,

You could use the existing speakers, although not really the best option, but would only use as a stop gap to getting better ones
