I'm a fan of sweet & savoury, gammon & pineapple for example but on US food shows i'm constantly seeing plates of food with whole fruit on the side.

Just been watching a show when the dish was biscuits and sausage gravy with a bit pile of potatoes and then a bunch of grapes on the side of the plate.

I've seen another dish where it was a big marinated pork chop with asparagus and sliced strawberries on the side.

I've never tried it but it just seems strange to me. It may work.
Just wonder how common it is.
Like I say, some fruit and savory combos work very well.

For me, fruit with savoury things is a complete no no - including sweet & sour, gammon and pineapple, sultanas in curry etc etc.

The only time we ever had fruit with a savoury meal was cranberries with our turkey on Thanksgiving. Don't know about anyone else, but I hear tomatoes are pretty popular with all sorts of savoury meals.

Pineapples on pizza, coronation chicken - it's just wrong.

Fruit added to savoury meals as some sort of glorified garnish - not keen. But fruit cooked as part of savoury meals can be excellent - Middle Eastern dishes, for example, like dried apricots cooked in a lamb tagine. Also some Latin American dishes combine dried fruit & meat. Yum.

Pineapple on pizza - no thanks.

Sultanas and marmalade in curry.
Peaches in curry
Pinapples in curry
Bananas in curry
Apricots and pomegranites in tagines.

Why is it wrong? Surely the very idea of pizza is to put on it what thou wilt?

I have pineapple from time to time on pizza when I cook it myself.

One of the nicest things I ever had with a beef curry was slices of apple on the side for dipping in the sauce. Sounds strange but was lovely

That's more of what I mean. I'm not sure if they think they're being fancy or ponsy or if it's just a traditional kind of thing.

It just looks strange when you have a mass of fried food and then some fresh fruit as garnish.
Maybe it is there to serve a purpose as a palate cleanser

Pineapple, onion and garlic pizza is lush!

Love coronation chicken. And Hawaiian pizza too.

Many years ago I used to go to a kebab shop that did an awsome Cheese and Pineaple burger.
