Holiday or not, Guy Fawkes is the biggest night of the year in Lewes, Sussex with thousands of locals parading through the streets carrying torches and burning crosses. The whole town rises in uproar with all manner of pagan instincts combining with assorted causes. Marchers converge at a huge bonfire where they burn the pope in effigy. Tourists come from miles away.
Supporters of English celebs went as much awol as Lulu supporters.
