For a programme that is on at 6pm on a Saturday, presumably aimed at a family audience, I was appalled at the foul language in last night's programme.

"I'm going to whip his *rse!" and "I am going to give him a b*llocking", plus numerous bloody this and bloody that.

Is it any wonder standards are deteriorating in society when ITV is allowed to broadcast such stuff at this time of the day?

I'm no prude but this sort of language is not suitable for my 7 year old who loves the programme, but will not be allowed to watch it again. Save it for beyond the watershed please, if it still exists!

I'm no prude but I do find the language really strange too. They must realize ofcom said standards should be tighter before 9pm a couple of months back. I suspect they're gonna come down on them like a ton of bricks.

It didn't bother me one way or another.Considering the last few weeks they have been showing in the coming soon bit of the 2 girls dressed up in the Chinese outfits that tell the judges to f**k off(which has been bleeped) but you have a rough idea what is being said.

Nowadays we are so accustomed to swearing we understand what every bleep means. You'd be surprised at how vulgar the kids are today...I am a prefect of 11year olds and my school and they know all of the words in the book. I was talking to a friend of mine, when we were his age, only one of the renegades in our year pushed it as far as 'tits'

I don't have a problem with arse or bloody - and they've whacked logo's over the swearing folk's mouths now to prevent the kids from seeing what word was actually said!!

The logo on screen is hardly the point. It is totally irresponsible of ITV to be screening these scenes at 6pm on a Saturday night. But bear in mind this is the same ITV which showed a clip of Roxanne in Pop Idol 2 in the bath - she was only 16 (and may in fact have been 15) at the time.

They didn't bleep out "arse", "bloody" or "bollocking" on Saturday. Neither did they do the whacked logos for these.

I have no problem with swearing, but there is no place for it at 6pm on a Saturday when thousands of young children (ie under 10) are watching.

I agree. Why not schedule it for later if they are going to include language that IMO is totally inappropriate for 6o'clock. How can you try and teach children of primary age that certain words are not "right" (I dont care if they hear them at home, I didn't want to hear them in my classroom).

I lalso love the osbournes, I have no problem with bad language in an adult environment, and I swear like a trouper when I am out of earshot of those I feel may be offended by it.

BUT - My children have NEVER heard me swear, nor would I swear in a public place if I felt others could here me or be offended by it.

I have to admit, on this occasion I was slightly taken aback when at 6.55pm at the end of the show, we hear Sharon Osbourne say "I love a good bollocking first thing in a morning".

Utterly innapropriate.

I am sick to death of having to turn programmes over or off (eg Eastenders, Coronation Street, on occasions even things like Changing Rooms), at a time of the early evening which should be considered 'child friendly TV'.

More annoying is INNAPROPRIATE adverts showing between programmes on even earlier.

Ones with scantily clad women (all very nice, but not in between an afternoon family film), or worse still those 'weird' adverts with peoples heads and body parts 'missing', birds of prey 'biting the heads off' individuals, and those scary little goblins in the 'learn direct ads'.

All very witty, but not suitable for kids to see, who don't get the joke, but simply see nigtmarish images instead.

It really annoys me - I accept that after 8.30/9pm, its my fault if I stumble onto something that is a bit risque, but it is not acceptabe before this time. Especially at a time when my children are getting ready for bed.

I don't see where complaining is going to get you.I mean let's be real here they are hardly going to take it off our screens are they?.

In ofcoms case that's probably a good sign; means they're investigating- if they thought you didn't have a case you'd have got a "sorry you feel that way, but..." type letter by return post.

I don't think bad language is appropriate before 9pm, but I wish people would stop saying that it is because they don't want kids to hear it.

When I was 11, 20 years ago, we knew all of the swear words. Everyone I knew would swear more than an episode of the Osbournes. But that was just between other kids, we wouldn't swear in front of adults. Maybe this is where the myth that kids don't know what swear words are comes from. Just because the adults don't hear it.

I still don't swear in front of my parents, but all the time in front of my friends.

Lets face facts, its US that don't want to hear swearing at that time, regardless of children hearing it. I don't mind swearing when it is appropriate, as in the Sporanos or Oz. But not in family entertainment shows.

I see where you're coming from, and, yes, I know half my pupils are reguarly exposed to what used to be referred to as "foul language".

The thing is, it's still not acceptable amongst any kids in primary school, do we drop all barriers so that being told to F*** off is the norm?

I hope not. I will never tolerate it in the classroom, and, believe it or not, there's a heck of a lot of parents who have a rich vocabulary that doesn't resort to swear words. That's the lazy, easy option.

Apparently, I'm a bit of an oddity at work (i'm a manager of over 20 staff - male and female). I NEVER swear in front of my staff, and NEVER swear in front of my manager (male and female) colleagues at Group Meetings, or in front of my line manager(male).

I've been advised (by a former female line manager) that I should swear, because, quote, ' it brings you level with your staff, so they will be able to relate to you more'.(!)

The only occasions when I swear?
When I injur myself, or when I am really annoyed (usually said to myself under my breath), or when talking informally amongst friends.
In business, it just is not professional.

If it was just the word arse then it would really be a bit of a trivial thing to complain about.

I can see that some people may be upset by the word boll***s before 8 or 9pm, but really do you think that children wouldn't have heard this in films and music. You go and see any PG film and it can contain these words or take your 10 year old to a 12A and it can contain alot stronger than those used in the X-Factor.

Most of the time you will also go out and buy CD's for your children which contains bad language, if you bothered about the word Arse then you should stop listening to any form of main stream music cause it all has it in. The thunderbirds song by busted for example has that word in and the CBBC channel did not see a need to filter it out.

People need to be more sensible about these things, instead of going off on one everytime they hear the word bloody or arse, or see a bit of flesh on screen.

I so agree with this post . My kids get embarassed at this kind of thing , not because they are shocked , but more because they know I am listening . They hear far worse in the playground, unfortunately.

lol, I'm the same way as your kids. I can quite happy watch a film or tv show with swearing, but feel uncomfortable with watching it with my parents, and I'm 30!! Same with sex in films and tv shows really...

Tally, what I was saying was that when I was 11 we would swear, but only in front of other kids. We wouldn't swear in front of adults, especially not teachers or parents.

The problem with swearing on family shows is that it seems more aceptible to kids that swearing is ok to use in front of adults.

I think that's the reason that I don't agree with swearing before the watershed. Not because kids might hear it, but because they won't appreciate where and when it is acceptible to swear.

Yeah, I noticed "piss" "slipping through" two or three weeks ago, and nearly started a thread on it. Simon Cowell said "you must be taking the piss".

I thought it might have been sloppy editing, as it was hear quietly slightly off mic. But you get the feeling with so much slipping through, that they might be trying to move the swearing goalposts, else they think they've already moved. Either that, or someone is doing their job badly.

It wasn't loud, but I swear I heard an eff slip through tonight too, when one of the groups were laughing and chatting. Anyone else hear it?

Why have they just bleeped the same b****cking quote from Sharon in tonight's show (after 9pm) when it appeared in last week's uncut before 7pm?!

I'd assume because people have complained about it since then. Rather a lot of people I'd imagine seeing as they still bleeped it post 9pm.

I like Sharon but she should be professional enough to control herself. It does, however, appear that the producers are deliberately selecting clips with swearing for shock effect.It's pathetic.This is supposed to be a music talent show
