My ignore list is colossal, but I can rarely resist clicking 'view post' to see what the WUM was saying all the same.

Ah but the blood pressure is so much better if you cannot see what drivel/nonsense/crap/idiocy they are spouting

The problem for me is when someone quotes what they said, then I'll see it anyway.

You all should have more respect! It's a national disaster for Scotland, they're going to be permanently scarred. You should be there to help the great nation through their hour of need!

Their eardrums have already been permanently scarred. It happened miliseconds after the first WEEEEEEELLLLLLL.

Still, if the Scots could get over that, I'm sure they'll get over the loss of a Thatcher-supporting, mid-Atlantic drawling, red-hair denier who has spent far more time outside of Scotland than inside it.

Oh, it's nothing to do with Lulu, they're all stuck on Glasgow Green trying to get home after a big fireworks display!

I avoid the motorways now and take the scenic country roads and its so liberating .I ignore all highways and motorways and cruise along blissfully without the stress of the annoying four lanes and silly speeding drivers .Bliss .

It doesn't work if the WUM is quoted. The mods should do something. This forum is infested!!

Wind Up Merchant. Someone who deliberately posts in a provocative manner so as to stir up comment. If you reply rationally to them, they will ignore you or purposefully misinterpret your post. An example in the SCD forum would be to let's say sing the praises of Ann Widdecombe, an incredibly divisive contestant.

Another term for them is 'troll'. As in, 'don't feed the troll' - just ignore them as all they want is attention.

Thanks, I didn't know the term. Is this a general English internet term, or just used here on the forum?

Fairly standard. From what I've seen, some forums prefer troll, others WUM, but they are much of a muchness in meaning, I think.

Saddest part is, the Motorway guy seems to be even more delusional than Nancy, rather than a serious Troll or WUM.

I've questioned the Mods on why they let these £$%"^% loose on the forum but, apart from acknowledging my alert, I have never had a real explanation from them and no answers.

I'd really like to know WHY they are allowed to run around the board posting utter rubbish and cluttering up the front page.

I have done the same or similar but it goes on..and on.. and on. I have employed the ignore button but what frustrates me is the FMS who keep rising to the bait thus giving attention/feeding and making the posts appear.

PLEASE consider ignoring the posters otherwise known as WUMs/trolls/annoying barstewards.

I've also got a list of WUMs on ignore. Luckily, some of them seem to disappear into oblivion after a while. However, it annoys me when their stupid thread titles keep taking up space on the front page and can't be avoided. I wish the mods would close some of their threads.

But we are on a (relatively) un-moderated forum, freedom of speech and all that. I agree the Ignore button is best deployed, though I've never personally used it. At the end of the day whether someone is a WUM/troll is surely a matter of opinion.

PS what does ETA mean (something to do with Editing???? )

That wouldn't be an example at all. There is plenty to praise about Ann Widdecombe and that is a perfectly proper topic to post for discussion.

Anyone can be praised. We all like different things about SCD. But the WUM is obvious in it's choice of words.

Agreed.

But sometimes it's the lack of words or the use of meaningless half-titles of threads that winds people up.

And the bumping of its own thread, again and again, having a monologue.
