Lcd Tv
My bedroom tv is currently in the process of going through a long and painful death and I have decided to upgrade to LCD but I have a few reservations. Firstly it will be used with the games consoles a lot and I have been told that the refresh rates can cause problems, can anyone who uses an LCD for this purpose give some feedback? Secondly do they suffer from frozen pixels as i seem to have very bad luck with them and laptop screens. And finally what is the picture quality actually like as no shop ever has the demo models set up properly so I cant tell what they are like. Any comments about these TV's would be welcome. Thanks.

Firstly, forget analogue reception - you need a digital source of some kind for any decent quality LCD TV reception.
As for refresh rates - it varies, but it's much better than it used to be. The sound on most of the small units is OK to poor, so you might want to think about how you deal with that. Pixel problems again are less than they used to be, but check the guarantee to see what happens if pixels fail. To some extent, you get what you pay for with the well known brands giving generally better performance. This is definitely one to check out in the TV magazine reviews as you don't want to buy a duff one. If I had to choose a low end model, Samsung seems OK with LG not far behind. I would also insist on seeing a games console working one before I bought it - even Curry's could manage that with a bit of notice... |

LCD tv's differ so much in quality. Some have odd problems too. Dont buy one without seeing it working would be my advice.

Ok thanks a lot guys, the sound is not going to be a problem as i have a dolby digital system (it looks quite funny set up with a 14 inch tv
) and i have freeview for the digital reception, although some channels do look live web casts *cough abc1 cough*. I think ill have a look at the decent brands then.

..........That depends, are all your freeview channels looking like that, or is it just ABC1? If its just the one channel, the chances are its just that channel, and nothing to do with the LCD screen.

I am also thinking about an LCD TV and am considering the 17" 16:9 and 20" 4:3 sets made by Relisys.
Anybody out there already own one or other of these sets and can give a first hand opinion on reliability / picture / sound quality etc? The reviews I have read generally give both a thumbs up especially on picture quality and VFM. thanks. |

Not seen one. I no longer take reviews at face value. A lot of them are far from accurate. Try before you buy.

For what its worth we've got a philips 17" and are very happy with it. The reception from my coathanger ariel is rubbish but with dvd's the quality is superb. Good sound aswell. I shopped around on the internet and found a bargain.
