I shall be interested in ALL of the characters, especially Mr Bates. I have my tissues ready, given his track record I'm not expecting a happy ending

Nervous fans, happy fans....

It's worth remembering that Sunday's episode isn't an ending for anyone - probably the reverse, in fact. Almost all the speculation here is looking back not forward.... As we all recover from the heartbreak and happiness, I think we'll be saying "Is is September yet?"

I'm disappearing now for the festive season but I'd like to wish everyone on this thread the happiest of Christmases, whatever you're doing, wherever you are. May Father Christmas bring you all you wish for - both now and in the New Year.

A very good point you make. The Christmas epsiode is not the end but rather the beginning of a new chapter in Downton life. Let's look forward to series 3!

Happy Christmas LadyofShalott and everyone else on the forum #wewishyouamerrydownton

Yeah he has really beautiful blue eyes. I really liked this interview and it was good to see more of Laura Carmichael. She comes across really well in interviews.

I'm not either. And I'm pretty convinced I'm right about it. I won't be happy by the end of the episode! I just know it

Never mind, even if it doesn't end how we'd like it to there is always series 3. No matter what happens, Anna and Mr Bates will be together in the end.

But quite dull, did they edit the crap out of their interview? Carson album advert was the most entertaining part of that slot.

There is a good DA quiz here on the Daily Mail website. Some of the questions are easy but some are a bit tricky.I got 36 out of 40!
There is also a nice interview with Dan Stevens on that website too.

He came up with some interesting stuff. He originally intended to play Branson as an English chauffeur but Julian Fellowes insisted he was Irish, saying he could so a lot more with an Irish character. He adds that it was he who suggested to Fellowes that he might include the Easter 1916 Rising in the script.

A combination of 1. Stupid Questions, 2. Ross being all about him 3. Michelle Dockery is VERY quiet and while Laura is by far the most responsive interviewee, Jessica is desperately dull.

Yeah his questions were rather terrible, like you could only give very short awnsers which couldn't really go anywhere. Laura Carmichael was deffinately the most responsive. I like what she said about Hugh Bonneville after her comments in a different interview that he "tucks in" whenever he goes for food he looks at her then puts it back.
Otherwise it was a bit dull and awkward. They all looked lovely though.

I agree that it was a bit awkward.I think they were nervous and it showed. The questions were rather generic questions that they have answered about a million times before so that made it a bit dull. They definitely all looked lovely, especially Jessica.Loved her dress. Couldn't stop laughing at the Carson album, though. That was the best bit.

On BBC breakfast this morning they had another quick scene where by Matthew has received a phone call, he says to Mary with RC hovering in the back ground reading a newspaper, that he will be on the early train to London in the morning, as Lavina's father is very ill, in fact not likely to be around much longer. He then asks her if anyone in the house is going to be called as a witness and she replies "only papa" but she would be attending I suspect to support Anna. Matthew then says would she like him to attend to explain everything to her and as he says that he looks at RC and asks him if he RC is going to attend. That was it. It left me wondering about the funeral that is alleged to be taking place. In an earlier trail I saw Matthew and Isobel standing by a grave in the rain where Matthew say he can never by happy and neither must Mary be. I assumed they were standing at Lavina's grave, perhaps on their way to the Abbey for Christmas but now I'm left thinking is this after the funeral of Lavina's father.
Oh is all good fun and we shall know in a little over 29 hours time.
A Merry Christmas to one and all. Look forward to reading all the comments afterwards.

yeah, I have heard that a few times when Allen has been interviewed. I liked the bit about how JIm Carter kept saying 'leave in a dress', so they took 4.5hrs over that scene.

One habit Michelle Dockery has that drives me nuts is that she can't answer a question without looking to other people for support. I want to shout at her to 'be confident in yourself, don't look at them!'

Not a big deal since I don't see her interviewed much, but I definitely prefer her as Lady Mary. The girl who plays Sybil comes across as similarly lacking in confidence, but also perhaps not terribly bright.

I think she is rather quiet and dislikes the attention in public. When she is interviewed with Dan Stevens she does a similar thing. But perhaps being a man he pulls of answering the questions for her smoothly I don't know if it is lack of confidence or general intorvertedness. She is certainly bright because when she is interview isn't live she comes across as thoughtful and insightful.

I don't think Jessica has much to say for herself in general.

I don't think they have done many interviews other than those for publicity purposes and I suspect many actors/actresses are actually fairly shy and don't like talking about themselves. Acting gives them an escapism into another personality. I did read somewhere that MD really like to keep her private life private and I don't blame her for that. You never know what embarrasing question Jonathan Ross might ask and he is so far up his own backside his shows always seem to be more about him than his guests. There was a cut to last nights programme relating to someone called Tim Minchin who was singing a song about Jesus and Woody Allen so it's possible some of their time got cut as well.
