Artists that have been "working on a follow-up" for ages!
Each year there has been standout succesful acts who are considered "The Class of 2008 etc", for example I'd say that the breakthroughs of 2008 in the UK were:
Katy Perry The Ting Tings Duffy Adele Estelle That said only 2/5 of them have had succesful comebacks, 2/5 haven't even released a followup album (Ting Tings have kept pushing back their album by about nearly 2 years) and one of them had such a bad comeback after a brilliant debut she has now reclused. In 2009 I'd say the main breakthrough's were: Florence + The Machine La Roux Lady GaGa (although did have success in 2008) JLS Pixie Lott Tinchy Styder Most of them have only just finished their second albums and have/are releasing them this year. Just felt the need to add those facts, but what recent acts haven't released an album in ages and were meant to. I literally haven't heard anything from La Roux in a bit a year, there was meant to be a video for Waterlilies that 18 months on still hasn't been released. I won't even go into The Ting Tings Also a band from 2008 who had moderate success called Black Kids have barely been posting anything on their website since late 2008. What singers/bands did you really like and can't wait for their next album which they've been "writing, recording, editing" for ages |

I think to say that just because it is your opinion that the ting things havent released a decent follow up, doesn't mean they haven't been making music. Same with estelle and Duffy.... Again, just because there sophomore LP wasn't as commercially successful as the first, doesn't mean that they 'haven't released a follow up'
Duffy has released a follow up as has estelle. Both are working on their 3rd albums retrospectively. |

Leona Lewis, she was supposed to release her album this month but then decided to go back into the studio, so we have to wait till March! And the last one came out november 2009, so its been a while.
Same with Alexandra Burke, her last one was in october 2009 (cant believe its been that long!) |

Granted that the industry is moving in an extremely fast pace, there are simply some acts that can only have one successful album. The shell life of a recording artist is shrinking, so I'm not surprised by all those delayed follow-up's.That always happens, though and there have been some cases, especially in the 90's where it took the artist 5-6 years to deliver a follow-up, so 3 years is not that much of a big deal
(Btw, The Ting Tings had a single or two in the beginning of the year, so they are working on the follow-up but the singles flopped)Anyway, the first name that sprang to mind when I read the title was Justin Timberlake

And Nelly furtado
But she had that Spanish album in 2009, didn't she?And she also released 'The Night Is Young' (very subpar), so at least she hasn't vanished completely I hope she'll deliver with the new album. She has A LOT to live up to...and if Timbaland can't give her a gem, she should work with some other producers too (not necessarily mainstream producers.I want her to experiment!! )

Duffy has released a follow up as has estelle. Both are working on their 3rd albums retrospectively. With The Ting Tings I have been following them a lot since 2008 (like literally every movement and blog they've posted!) , I know that they have been recording music and have been performing still a lot - performing new songs live - they have also released one single from their album and a VIDEO for another song (it hasn't been released on Itunes yet) but many other fans are complaining that they confirmed they had finished their album a year ago but have delayed so much I know that they have been making music but no releasing, JLS have done about 3 albums since Ting Ting's debut. I know that they are taking their time to make it amazing but most of the other breakthrough acts of 2008 have already released their second albums and I'm worried The Ting Tings's would have been forgotten and would kind of have to completely re-introduce themselves and "debut" again |

Not a follow up, more like comback - Blink 182. Postponing their tour to finish their album they've been working for ages!
Also 30 Seconds to Mars' 4th album I want! Don't think they've started on it yet though, they've just broke the world record for the most gigs on a single tour. They did say at Reading they won't be coming to the UK for a while gigging, hopefully it means work on a 4th album? or maybe a break from music I don't know.

Nelly Furtado - 4 years and still no 4th English album.
If she finally releases it next year it'll be 5.

No Doubt keep posposting their comeback. They officially came back like 4 years ago and even did a tour but musically, still no album. I think it's next year.

Whatever happened to Paris Hilton & Lindsay Lohans new LPs?
Ooops I forgot neither can sing a note in tune so the world is indeed a better place for this. |

I probably sound really old fashioned but music isn't the same now. When I was young you saved for ages to get the albums of your fave artist. It meant something. Now you can download albums for next to nothing and there are so many artists out there who sound exactly the same. No originality just rehashed versions of classics
