Hyper dog and being lively

My lovely Staffie dog is just gorgeous and I have had her since she was 10 weeks old and is now three years. She has always been a hyper and an anxious type but just adores people, bit funny with other dogs but all in all she is great. She can be hard work being that she is always under my feet, she never stops running about, dashing up and down stairs, everything is at 100mph even when out for walks.

Anyway, I read up about a coat called a Thundershirt which is based on the Tellington Touch technique which I do use on her to stop her jumping up which is a big issue with her and always has been. As soon as I use the TTT she is good as soon as I stop she reverts back.

So I went to Pets at Home and bought a Thundershirt for her and OMG put the thing on her and a transformation straight away, no jumping up, dashing about, total calmness and relaxed. She had the thing on for about 2hrs and you would not have known she was in the house. Even when next doors dog barks (which sets her off every single time) she didnt bark

I am not saying it will work for all dogs, but anyone experiencing not dissimilar issues google it and have a read up

I had to google Thundershirt. Is it basically a straight jacket for dogs? Its great that its so positive in its results mind. Im old fashioned and am distrustfull of new fangled gismos like this. But seeing that its had such a positive result for you and your dog I might try to be less cynical and more with it. But not much.

I'm glad it is working for you. I've heard quite a few good things about them, especially recently with fireworks, and would definitely be worth considering if you have an anxious or excitable dog. Have only ever heard positive things about TTouch too, though never been in the situation to have to use it myself.

Im old fashioned and think dogs don't need clothes just educating as to who is in charge and in control. They understand and thrive on that.

I used to have a spaniel that loved fireworks, she was a bit potty tho. She'd been brought up hunting so was used to loud bangs, another dog I had fell to bits at the slightest pop. I just had her sit next to me and reasured her that she was ok.

I used to have a dog that got so excited by the noise of fireworks as she thought it was fguns and that she would be taken shooting. We had to lock her in or she ran towards the noise. She did escape once and was caught about 10 miles away!

I've got a scatty dog now (a patterdale) who is calm in the house but mental when out and does the jumping up thing when taken out. With persistance from us she does calm down within about 5 minutes but she's a complete pain at first. I may have to have a look at them coats although in general I'm not a fan of putting coats of any sort on dogs.
