Uncanny X-Men no more... and back again
Sooooo...
After a sort of (there were the 'reprint years'), continuous run since 1963... The Uncanny X-Men volume one comes to an end and is reborn post 'Schism' (which I am yet to read as I am still on 'Fear Itself'). Rolling Stone article So my question is... do we care? Though an UXM fan since the early 1980s, I have long since removed UXM from my must-read or even top 20 list... although I have managed to keep abreast of the X-books overall. Is this just some sort of response to DC's new 52 reboot? I thought it was stooooooopid that a fourthh X-Men book was released late last year, so the reboot of the flagship title does little for me. So any views on this latest Marvel (marketing?) milestone. Cheers |

they always end up going back to the old numbering anyway. DIdn't they do that with Fantastic Four and SPiderman in the past?!
I stopped reading it about 10 years ago - two many characters and too many crossovers. |

These renumbering stunts become a pain in the ass after a while. But yeah they'll probably renumber it again whenever they print enough issues to make #600.

Yeah, "Uncanny" was my must read for many years, but the constant reboots and team changes drove me away a good 6 years ago now.
If it really goes I'll be sad but not surprised. |

I ditched the X-books after Onslaught. I got fed up with the crossovers and "events". Same sort of thing caused me to ditch the Bat-books a few years later.

I started reading with issue 129 and carried on until about 533. It just became so formulaic. Kill a character, bring him back, villan becomes hero, another secret history we never knew about and stick Wolverine in everything.
A sad end. |

A sad end. I remember at the time I couldn't get UXM #137 and had to wait until I was an adult and old enough to seek out and buy it from a comics shop. It is shame, where they are now... they should let Bendis, Millar, Ennis etc loose on the entire X-book franchise, although I must admit Kierron Gillen is not as bad as some of his recent predecessors... Ever since Avengers Dissassembled I have found the Avengers franchise so much better and interesting than the X-books. |
