Yep! It's a shame some felt they had to put Matt and Cher against each other when they're totally different genres of music but there you go. Just makes Matt look even better at the end of the day

Have we noted that the album has climbed a place to 18? I like the midweek climb

I think people are finally getting the message I was banging on about () that album sales are in steep decline and all things considered 70k isn't bloody bad at all!

Of course Rihanna and 1D will be along in a couple of weeks to get the annual high album sales and we will hear much crowing but it doesn't disguise the overall picture that albums are a dying market.

Quite shocked at Susan Boyle though, I was expecting a decline on last year's sales but not that much, she is on 31k on the Wednesday and Matt was on 28k on the Tuesday

Yep its all in perspective now. Apart from the massive 1D machine, and like you said probably rhianna sales are low and Matts were really good. Cher hasn't sold as much as Matt did with an extra days sales added. Not getting at Cher (quite like her new tune) and I wish them all luck in a cut throat industry but the rejoicing on the MF at Matt coming in at no 2 with low 70k sales was actually miles from the truth. Had he released this week be would have walked it.

What are his album sales so far overall do you know?

It looks like Cher will outsell Pro Green this week too

I wish I could swear on this thing!! Absolutely incredible!! That takes me right back to that night and gave me shivers!! That is my absolute fave version of that song so far!!!

A point many seem to have forgotten is that 1D had better sell a shedload - they had a £2m contract compared to Matt's £1m, which certainly has helped keep them in the limelight (trips to USA/helicopters to book signings etc) and whipped up the teenage frenzy just nicely. But they have to sell a massive number of albums to pay for that. There are 5 of them to pay out of the sales plus a larger management team. I know merchandising will add to the earnings - but for all that it's a lot of money to cover.

BTW - can't say this to my daughter, but I really don't like their new single. I did like the first one - but this is just It will certainly sell to the main fanbase but I doubt it will sell so well to the rest of the music buying public - it's just not as catchy or good.

Nicola - just had my first look at the MF in quite a while. You are doing a brilliant job with all your chart/sales knowledge. In a really positive way, you have been able to display how Matt's album sales have been good, without openly rubbishing any other artist. A thing that fans of other acts are not very good at. Well done - you make Matt fans look good.

No it's not good. It seems a bit autotuned?? I'm a wee bit worried for Harry singing those high bits in the x factor on Sunday . It will still sell masses though. I liked WMYB this doesn't come close. But the massive hype surrounding them should see it ok. I didn't realise they had a bigger deal . Thankfully Matt seems to have been frugal and didn't push the boat out too far. Plus writing himself must save money?

I've shredded my notes - but essentially there was nothing new. The presenter said that he and his family were totally sold on him after FTEISYF week (I assumed he meant the live show version). He asked what SC was like and Matt said that he was really sweet & really supportive. Can't remember much else but matt introduced Starlight and it finished.

So nothing really new, but nice to hear that the presenter was a fan.
