Well I'm not knocking it until I've seen it, or indeed if it is true, but usually those reports are. I think it would be good for EastEnders to finally have some gangsters that are real and not pantomine like Andy Hunter. I swear to god when I see him walk into the Vic I just want to yell boooooo!!! lol

i think the reason people are having a dig at the ee gangsters stuff if not that its too gangster based jsut that the gangsters we've got are "hes behind you, oh no hes not" style

get some more realistic ones and it might work out good for ee

I find the gangster stories totally unbelievable (why would they hang out in the Queen Vic) and very dull. Why gangsters are supposed to be endemic to the East End, I don't know. Surely there should be some Yardies anyway?

I hate gangster type characters! That's what made me turn off this show in the first place. Even if this show is better than most US Soaps, I would rather something more light than dark.

What I always find makes these gangsters laughable is as its pre watershed they can't do anything remotely Krayish because of the censors. And even more so, the fact that they can't swear. What proper gangster goes round telling people to Get Stuffed! ?? The real life Phil Mitchells, Andy Hunters and Dirty dens of this world and even come to think of it the Millers and their kids would be going round going F*ck off, you f*ucking w*nkers, i'll f*cking ave you!" they just WOULD. That's how those kind of characters talk in real life.

I'd like to see a late night EE once in a while were for once each characters dialogue was genuinely appropriate

The Krays favourite haunts were pubs

I think they should bring John Woo in to direct for a couple of episodes.
Perhaps Dot could take on the Yakuza, with lots of slow mo action, (No not big Mo. )

The rudest thing ever said on EE was when Den said to some police guys: Hello c*ntstables...

It was so funny. I remember watching it with my grandma and her looking at me like "Did I just hear what I think I heard?! Hide your ears!" The BBC got so much stick about it they censored it for the omnibus!

But yeah, there is no way people like Phil, Andy and Den would go around going: "Sling your hook!" "Get stuffed!" "Get lost!" "You has been!" "You stupid git!"

They'd be all "F*** off you w*****!!!"

How funny would a late nite EE be?! With swearing and Nigel Harman topless? *writers to EE begging for episode*

That was 40 years ago; they all hang around golf clubs in Chingford and Bournemouth now.

well at some point (a month or so ago) you could see several new threads everyday that went "No more gangstas !!!!".
Now everyone says it's a good idea. Go figure.
It's like the new girl can't do no wrong

I'm with Mrs Harman on this. I can't see how they will be able to pull this off convincingly in a pre-watershed timeslot. I would rather they dropped the gangsters altogether rather than putting them in half heartedly.

Why do we have to have soprano thugs? Just bring in Robert De Niro from Analyze This/That and EVERYTHING will be okie-dokie (Because I luff him and he has a mobster voice)

I'm with Mrs Harman as well. It's impossible to do them properly, so just don't bother. If you want to see soprano style gangsters - watch The Sopranos.

Hear hear. It's not what the soaps are all about.

Personally, I would not be watching EE without the recent hardman storylines.
I was about to give up EE for good when they decided to bring back Den. Then there was the feud with the mitchels and Andy Hunter became a regular. That's what kept me watching this long.
Now I just can't wait for Phil to come back, and if he got Grant to come with him that would be even better.

If they want to introduce more gangsters then it would be great to have a late night EE with all the language and violence.

No Gangsters! The Eastend isn't like this and why would gangsters be living in Walford anyways?!?

Phil and Grant, yes. They are not typical gangsters...just thugs! But gangsters, oh please! Oh and what business will all the gangsters be fighting over...The Vic! Whatever!

I personally like the idea, as long as the Square doesn't become a gangster central. One or two who cause some ructions will be great I think. I do agree about the swearing though, I mean if a gangster's angry they aren't exactly going to shout 'you terribly ignorant fellow!' more of a "you f***ing tosser!"

Phrases such as "you're a dead man" can be quite effective though. Hmm. Let's wait and see, eh?
