My pet conspiracy theory is that Amelia was got out of the way to ensure golden girl Janet (who Gary was terrified of criticising a few weeks ago) got a smooth path to the final.
However Janet has not lived up to the hype and is probably low in the voting figures, so they've given up on her and may as well bring back Amelia as a serious contender.
Much easier than voting.imo.
