On the 11th October (over 4weeks ago) i reported an act of cruelty against our cat. We had about 3 or 4 calls that day from the RSPCA regarding the investigation and the last call was to explain will hear from the RSPCA in the next 2days or we will receive a house visit. 4 weeks later.....nothing, no calls, no email, no letters. We have rang up a few times and told the same thing every single time 'we'll pass the message on to the office investigating'. This has gone on for 4 bloody weeks and me and my family are getting very annoyed. End of the day we lost out beautiful cat of 16yrs and now we're trying to get jusitice and the RSPCA can't even be bothered to respond to us. I have never in my life dealt with people like this. We can only speak to the people at the call centre and they ain't doing anything to help us but pass messages on. I am getting very annoyed at this. At the moment i am on hold. I contact rspca again today to again ask whats going on, they referred me to another number and they then told me to call the number i orginally dialled and so now im on hold. I don't wanna be rude to who ever answers but my anger is starting to grow minute by minute. My cat is dead and that was the worse day of my life. I'm trying to get answers but no one can seem to help.

So you reported someone who had been cruel to your cat ? Im sorry, your post isn't clear. It sounds like you reported yourself ... which can't be right.

Yes, i have reported someone once. My neighbour left his dog home alone for almost 2 days. I panicked that the dog had no food, but more importantly no water for all of this time - let alone toilet breaks.

They were very helpful and said they would send someone straight over to the house. But the neighbour then came home, so i contacted the RSPCA again to tell them he had finally returned. They said they would still be contacting him over it.

I never heard anything again, but this might be standard practice ? I don't know if they ever contacted the neighbour - as its not the sort of thing you ask.

On the whole the RSPCA are useless....I'd give it up now.

God no, not me. I'd never harm an animal. I reported the act thinking nearly 99.9% sure that she was harmed by someone we possibly knew.

I wanna speak to someone regarding the investigation. Is there no one??? They are really bad i think and yet i still donate to them. My beloved cat is DEAD and someone did this and the RSPCA are doing shit all, ****ing useless

May we ask what was the nature of this act of cruelty? How did the cat die? These are factors which may well impact on how authorities will investigate and adopting an aggressive attitude will not help your case.

Ditto, I have never had a good experience with them and will never give them a penny

the RSPCA are crap i would give up, the only time they would really investigate is if they thought they could get a conviction in court, with your cat being dead there will not be any evidence for a court case so they wont care, sorry if i sound blunt but the RSPCA dont care about animals which is why i would never donate to them

Overall opinion is not great and I would never donate again based on my experience. I am so sorry to hear about your cat. I am not sure about the circumstances but based on what happened but if you feel the person may be a danger to anyone else etc it may be worth having a word with the police about the whole situation as well. Not saying you will get much further but at least you know you have tried another avenue.

Vets believed my cat was beaten and i have a pretty good idea who. My cat, Suschi had many injuries....broken ribs, ruptured diaphragm, puntured and bruised lungs, fluid on the lungs. I am just mad that the RSPCA don't seem to be doing much. I agree with most on here, there's no point really bothering with them cause they don't seem bothered by the fact that one of my cats is dead, but also another of my cat went missing in the same circumstances as Suschi. Luckily Heidi is fine. But 2 cats in a space of a month..i find that odd but the RSPCA don't seem to care nor can they be bothered to inform us whats been happening.The overall view is that RSPCA aren't half as good as they make out. Do they even help out when an act of cruelty hyas been done to whatever animal?? And i found out today about the 10 German Shepherd Dog massacre. AWFUL

No, I don't. I live in the wrong country. I just don't think your tone here, if mirrored in correspondence with them, is doing you overly many favors. The fact that you'd accuse anyone who has questions about your circumstances (which you have not laid out well here) of having a vested interest does you even fewer.


Now we come to the crux of it. You're making accusations against people but haven't called in the police? IIRC the RSPCA are not criminal investigators and they do not have the powers of search, interrogation and detention that your case would seem to warrent. Have you considered the possibility that they are currently liaising with police and will have to be guided by their opinion of the available evidence as to wether mounting an investigation is even possible?


It's appalling and tragic, but I'd imagine that the RSPCA have very limited resources, not least at the moment and aren't capable of securing the SWAT team you seem to want to require to target those whom you suspect. Can you offer any evidence against those parties other than your suspicions?


What would you like them to do? They're a charitable organization, this is rather like me demanding that the British Heart Foundation find me a donor.


Cat's go missing. I have three, and it's very rare for all of them to spend the same night under the same roof. Again, it seems all you've been able to offer the RSPCA is your suspicions, it's rather unfair for you to demand the penalization of whomever you suspect just on those, however accurate they might be.


Again, I imagine, like most charitable organizations, they are hugely overstretched, thinly funded, and relying enormously off of voluntary help. I don't necessarily blame them for prioritzing cases where they can actually do some good rather than pandering to the wishes of everyone who phones them wishing to accuse someone else of murdering their pet. And I stress again, you seem to be after an instant response into what must be a complex relationship with police in terms of evidence gathering.


Again, I live outwith their catchment area, but I'd be surprised if they didn't do their best. It's just their best doesn't, for pretty understandable reasons, extend to the sort of rapid and summary response you seem to require.


Yes it is, I've just read about it now, but I'm not going to tarnish a whole charitable organization on the basis of one hysterically reported incident where witness testimony seems thin on the ground.

Nothing much to add to what BorderReiver said (although I might not have put it quite in those terms). If you suspect someone's harmed your cat, go to the Police. The RSPCA doesn't have any detectives and they can't do criminal investigations.

And a lot of people gladly benefit from the cheap veterinary care that the RSPCA provides.

The last programme I see about the RSPCA was a old lady who's dog was ill and she could not afford to have its illness treated , they made her sign the dog over, treated it then re-homed it.

The old lady loved the dog and it was obvious the dog love the old lady, so who the heck was that helping

You strongly suspect a certain person, but what actual evidence do you have to connect that person to Sushi's injuries & death?

Sadly, I doubt you'll get either. The RSPCA/Police have limited resources. When it comes to animal cruelty where there is little or no hope of securing a conviction, they are not going to extensively persue it.

The loved the dog but she couldn't look after it. What is supposed to happen, the dog get treated and put back with someone who will just let it get ill again ?

Both the dog and the lady were old why would anyone who loved animals separate a dog from a owner he had been with for over 10 years when they were both happy together?

Yes Police were informed same day as we contacted RSPCA. In the past i have seen a certain someone poking my cats with a broom, the amount of times i told them to stop and yet they still continue. Although the pokes weren't voilent they were enough to frighten the cat. Ok i'm not 100% sure but almost and these days you have to follow your gut instinct. I've had about 3 visits from the poilce about this situation and many more calls. They have visit the house in question a few times and they think they are very suspicious and this house has BEEN REPORTED BEFORE FOR ANIMAL CRUELTY. These people moved in about a year ago and a few months later they were reported and now we have reported them.

I have searched the net and i have seen loads and loads of sites condemming the RSPCA for not doing their job.

Anyone doubting this, Just try 'phoning the RSPCA and try to get an answer or a visit from them. unless you want to give money they're useless.in my experience.

In 2007 the RSPCA received £444,664,000 mainly from the general public. They invested £22,519,00 lnto the generation of further funds in 2008.
They have plenty of money. The figures are on the web.

The GSD incident wasn't hysterically reported IMO just reported. I agree that the RSPCA have a difficult job but they do themselves no favours in the way they carry out that job.
