Oh I know. It's just as a fellow American, it grinds my teeth when I see comments like "threaten an American" "dumb island". Im not here for xenophobia.

Neither Steve or Kelly can change where they are from (nor should they) so it's quite disheartening to see comments picking on things they can't change.

I wish they'd tell Steve to get rid of VoiceOver voice.

Steve does not connect with the public, he comes across as cold and uninterested. He has no idea how to comfort anyone, unlike Dermot and Ryan who are warm, friendly and have a connection with the audience. Not much chance of Simon axing Steve as I thought I read on DS that he was with Nicole now, unless he gets rid of both of them. Both pretty faces..........

Is he leaving? Just scanned the thread. He is an absolutely shocking host. I don't think he's had one word of banter with the judges, he just churns out his lines like an automaton. I actually don't think the Paula vote bit was his low point. The way he was then is how he's been at every point, no charisma , wit or charm whatsoever. I can't get the image of Bryn off Gavin and Stacey when he's being gauche and pushing the contestants off the stage.

I agree that this thread title is extremely misleading. I don't know whether it's intentional or not, a terrible topic title either way though.

Actually I think Steve is getting better and the show is settling in. Paula was the one at fault - albeit understandably - and Steve was trying to get her to realise the folly of not voting, that's all. He probably had 2 directors and 24 producers all shouting in his cans as he was speaking, plus the ridiculous baying audience.

For any Americans who think that Steve Jones is a national treasure over here .... he's not.

Best known for the ladies that he goes out with he is inordinately stupid and wooden. Presenting by numbers just about sums it up. He is way out of his depth with this.

I loved the way the arrogant git thought Jessie J was propositioning him and put on his best sleazy voice to tell her he would be along to her dressing room in half an hour. Just typical of him

Dermot was robbed, but at least we got to keep him.

The host of X Factor always does the contrived and cliched "(Name Of Judge) I really need an answer from you, now" bit.

Steve Jones is just doing what's scripted for him.

All the judges and Steve will come back next year.

For starters both are not very liked so he wouldn't mind axing both and secondly it is just rumored they're an item it's most definitely not true (he is rumored to date every woman who comes within a 100 miles radius of him).
Steve doesn't do relationships he just bangs them and then moves on to the next slag.

Host Steve Jones, who's caught flack in the press for being so strict with the judges, was beside himself over how it played out on television. "I feel terrible I was complicit in that meltdown," Jones told MTV News. "I was upset. I don't want to see Paula like that. I know she's a professional but I am too and my job is to get an answer from her. And if I can't get an answer, then she abstains, and I move on. That's the way that the show works.

"But I got like five producers screaming in my ear, 'Steve, we need an answer. OK, she's not gonna answer, move on. No, wait, she is gonna answer. Move back!' And chuck Simon Cowell into the mix going, 'Back off! Leave her alone.' Whoa, everybody's giving me major major abuse here from both inside my head and outside my head," Jones recalled through the haze of a head cold.

Based on this, I'll cut him a little slack, but the fact remains that he handled it very poorly and without sensitivity.”

I think so. He sounded quite honest in admitting his part in it.
It probably was a big curveball to throw at him.

Is it really fair to say that he's going to be axed after just one season? I think he's doing a great job by keeping the whole thing together- considering he's used to T4 which is a far cry from the glitzy X Factor stage. It's like settling into a new job position- you are not going up be perfect straight away. In addition, it's not like he has made a series of embarrassing blunders like Konnie Huq did; hence why she lost her Xtra Factor role.

I blame Cowsell for all of this - he is a member of the production company so how he got the strongest catagorie is a no brainer - and poor Paula shafted with the weakest

Wow. XF US is rubbish. First clip I've even seen of a live show and it's so loud and annoying.

He didnt do anything that he shouldnt have??? I dont get your reaction to be honest.

But I do think since Steve has been on American x factor he has had a total personality transplant, he is so serious and dull? Where has his charisma gone?

OP is so right, what a disgrace it is that Steve tried to make the Drama Queen Paula choose between one of her own acts. Seriously, imagine if that happened in OUR X Factor! A very well paid judge having to make a decision like that....oh wait....

I felt awful for Paula

Steve Jones is getting worse and worse. I HAVE to fastforward everytime he's on screen.

Has Cheryl Cole ever presented? I wonder.....

I find it strange that he is being criticised for being "strict". That was the least important thing.

For me, it was his incompetence when not being able to count to two that was amazing. He had to be told by the producers that if Paula abstained, the Stereo Hoggz are gone.

And his general demeanour just comes across as cold and weak. He isn't an engaging host.

The person at fault is Simon Cowell- who is the person who has a fair bit of clout with the producers who decide who gets who.

Simon - that is who

Which is why he should have been given the weakest catagorie. Paula should have had the strongest - It is Cowell's ego that makes him hell bent on winning

Remember on X Factor - nothing about Egg nog - it was "I can still win"

Me, me , me and a few more thousand me's after that

Really? I didn't know that. Excellent idea. They both suck, though Steve is marginally worse. I'm one of those who didn't know who he was when he got the job, I didn't watch T4 or anything he'd been on.

I'm loathing both X Factors at the moment, I might throw in the towel and just get Josh and Drews' performances on You Tube. I couldn't care less about any of the British contestants.

Don't be so patronising telling me to "grow up". Forums are all about peoples opinions; there is no right or wrong.
