First off im not a Frankie fan. I think of him as a talentless idiot but im sure some people will disagree (Mr Blonde where are you?!)

But Frankie has the X Factor! He cant sing but he has the sex and drugs and rock and roll lifestyle. He fits the mould. Whilst this may seem a bit dated he typify's the archetypal rock star.

The X Factor was getting very little publicity up till now. Garry and Simon can congratulate themselves on such an inspired choice as Frankie. Every loser wins!

He'll be forgotten in weeks, just like most of the rest thrown out by this show.

Totally disagree with your post. The X Factor does not need the likes of scroat Frankie and his non singing, neither mind his appaling take on women.

He can rot for all I care.

For the bit in bold, no, he doesnt, at all.

He typifies what a parody of a rock star would be if it was made by fisher price.

Or simon cowell.

This is all very well if people are interested in the 'sex and drugs and rock and roll lifestyle'. However I suspect that those people who are interested in it aren't big fans of the X Factor. I suspect they might go out on Saturday nights and have sex and drugs etc.

you forget one thing ...

all the other drug taking mental rock stars made it on their own and CAN sing

frankie will never make it on his own and can NOT sing

huge difference

so what we have distinguished is that Frankie is just another low life druggie like the other hundreds of them all over the UK that will go no where in life except jail

Lordy, all this about who can sing and who can't takes me back to my old dad watching Top Of The Pops around 1970. By his standards hardly anyone who ever appeared there could sing, because their voices didn't much resemble Gracie Fields or Bing Crosby.

Bob Dylan can sing. Leonard Cohen can sing. John Lydon can sing. Ian Curtis could sing. Frankie Cocozza can sing. Time will tell whether there's much of a market for his singing.

The only type of artist he is, is a piss artist. You can see the likes of him any Friday night on karaoke down the pub. He got slightly famous for getting thrown off a talent show for being a bit naughty, and that's it. He hasn't written a catalogue of brilliant songs, he isn't a musician and he can't sing. Not got a lot going for him other than his 5 minutes of fame, which is fading as we speak, because how many times can you read that he shoved cocaine up his nose without getting bored? He did it. So what? It's not news any more.

That much is true. The sooner he's done with interviews and in a recording studio the better as far as I'm concerned

Just to be serious for a moment. I think there really is a fan base. However I imagine an album label would be pinned on the wall to be ogled at but the CD itself will be left in the bottom of a drawer. Surely not even fans could listen to it more than a couple of times.

They certainly don't listen to him on YouTube much. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k53dEhclW4w

One thing to remember is that it's a prime time Saturday evening entertainment programme with lots of young kids watching. I wouldn't have thought that the 'sex and drugs and rock and roll lifestyle' is one that the producers would be overly keen to promote because they might alienate the parents of said young kids, thus the parents would stop the young kids watching it which would mean that the young kids wouldn't be able to vote and the programme would lose lots of money!

Um... No. He does not have the X Factor and is no different to a lot of kids. The reason it's being so publicised is because no one else is doing what Frankie's doing right now and the press have been desperate for the glory days of the 90s where popstars and television stars would be in the press all the time for their wild behaviour. Frankie unfortunately is a flash in the pan and like Katie Waissel will be entirely forgotten about in a year.

145000 views in three weeks is huge by comparison with most of the established artists who interest me much at all. Frankie obviously hasn't converted most of the X Factor audience to his cause, but there are plenty of artists out there producing music year in, year out, with almost no promotional budget, and CD sales in the hundreds of thousands aren't needed to sustain that sort of career, if it's what he wants. I'm certainly very likely to buy and listen repeatedly to whatever he may produce. The CD case(s) would just sit inconspicuously on the shelves along with all the others.

You can't really define what the x factor is there are many superstars that have "it' whatever "it" is many haven't got great voices but can command your attention and fill arenas and stadiums I don't think Frankie has the x factor or anything else going for him I also think this rockstar image is fake as any serious rocker wouldn't be seen dead on this show.

I think Madonna back in the day had the xfactor.
anyone have any others?

Any quotes to support that? Brian May for one hasn't sounded too averse to the show lately. I'd guess most rock stars just don't give it much of a thought, any more than they occupied themselves in the '60s and '70s with Opportunity Knocks and New Faces. Manufactured pop music has been around for a long time. Mostly when I see X Factor slagged off by anyone in the music business it's by current urban artists trying to shore up their credibility at the expense of X Factor performers some of whom might encroach on their market position.

It's true that having Frankie on the show was a venture into musical territory it hasn't tended to visit. David Wilder would have been another had he gone through to the lives. Mass audience receptivity is questionable, but the boost available to a career from X Factor-scale publicity could well be enough to justify some rock artists in putting aside any misgivings about taking part.
