Gary Barlow's behaviour at the Press Conference
sporti

Gary came over really badly, I thought, at this press conference. The way he tried to pin the blame on to Louis was ridiculous. Gary is the one at fault by constantly giving Frankie false hope. Saying he could sing when clearly the whole nation could see that he couldnt. Saying that his behaviour was the same as any teenager - well I dont agree with you Gary! I couldnt believe it when he got to the Judge's houses and have to presume that they wanted him to be a bad boy but it got out of hand. Frankie has really been very badly used in my opinion. Shame on you Gary. At least Louis had the guts to speak the truth.

Sooner GB leaves this show the better.
He's come across terrible in the live shows no doubt owing to the wonderful editing team for the taped ones.

Week on week Frankie's performance was a joke,'i think its disgusting people who are booing'.then his reaction to the swearing..like some headmaster trying to single out the culprit.

He sits there week on week like he missed the chance to use the toilet before the show starts.the guy has added nothing to this show.Jusyt look at last weekend Dermot making a big thing of Frankie only getting 30 mins sleep. Its the show itself has made a big thing of Frankies Wild side with no real talent to justify his place.

Simon can get away with pimping a weak act in a way that a credible recording artist can't. This is because Simon masterfully treads a line where the audience can't wholly tell if he's just eccentric and has poor taste and genuinely believes the lies he's presenting as the truth. And nothing he says ever sticks long enough to tarnish his reputation because he might not be an eccentric at all but in fact a highly successful music mogul. This is why it was more astute than we'll ever know for him to think of Noel Gallagher first to replace him. Noel could have continued the same shtick by playing with the audience over whether he was taking the piss or being serious. People would be accepting that Noel is pigheaded enough to hold amusingly odd beliefs. Gary can't do that. If he lies to the public he loses respect.

Good post, totally agree.
Plus Noel would've been a downright arse and made the whole thing more enjoyable all round

I like Gary. He's playing a role.

Even after all these years people still half believe that Simon is a music producer and not a television executive and purveyor of novelty records. The reason is he doesn't perform a character. He's more interesting. He finds a way to empathise with the viewpoint he wants to articulate and speaks like the straight-man for the madness around him. It works and he's very good at it. I half suspect the deal with these reality shows is the audience aspires to be Simon Cowell, not the singers he's judging. His is an innovative art-form in its own right because he transcends the conventions of the format and finds new ways to emotionally connect with the audience, with editing and presentation, instead of vocal performance and song writing. Few of his would be imitators grasp what he's actually doing.

Mr walsh may have spoken the truth on this occasion but this year he went out to achieve a freak show.

If Goldie hadn't quit then a fat lady who could sing would be denied her chance.

I'm sure he was surprised to find out just how well Jonny and Kitty could actually sing too.

At first he chose them purely for the weirdo factor.

For him now to pretend any different is just being plain dishonest.
