Lost all recordings!
After years of Sky, Sky + then Sky HD I decided to save some money by getting rid of Sky once and for all and getting a Freesat box.
Initially I was going to get the Humax FOX SAT box but was swayed by the future proof Samsung S7800 especially as the many problems since it's launch had been ironed out..... I've had the box nearly a month now and by and large it's been fine. Ok I've missed the end of the odd recording and trying to play back DIVX and XVID files is either impossible or the picture is very jerky. The main thing was being able to have a ready supply of CBEEBIES programmes for my son on hand to watch at anytime. That was until today when I discovered the library was empty! I had heard about this problem but as I had the latest firmware I assumed I would be ok. The advice from Samsung is to switch it off and see if that brings it back (nope!) or do a factory reset and update the firmware again. My gut feeling is to ring Richer Sounds tomorrow and ask if I can return the box for the Humax one. I don't see how resetting the box and installing the firmware will help as essentialy I've already done this when I first got the box. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. |

Do what they said, the problem happened after you updated the firmware so if its a software fault, doing a reset and downloading the latest firmware will fix it.
If that doesnt work then its a hardware fault and youll have to take it back. |

Hi thanks for the reply.
But surely the software I downloaded (before I'd even used the machine) will be the same again this time? Or have they released an updated one? I'm concerend this will happen again. This never happened with Sky....... |

Of course it will but it needs to be set back to factory default which fixes all sorts of things except hardware faults.
Its like reinstalling windows if you have a problem. |

remember you need to add your scheduled recordings back also, has happened to me a few times, the next time it does. I'm tempted to send it back so Samsung need to sort the next update out

Luckily I didn't have to do that with the scheduled recordings. But I agree about sending it back to Samsung if it happens again. I nearly did this time and it's the first time it's happened!
