Try disabling the 'Low power standby mode'
Refer to the user guide - pages 8 - 9 in this downloadable version

"Low Power standby mode stops all running services except blue LED"

No it cannot always show the time.

The low power option in setup just puts the unit into standby in early am hours if left on.

It is designed to use low power and i guess the main display is powerd only when it is fully on using 20 x more power.

Automan.

I'm a bit confused about the power modes of this unit.

Does it need 2 button pushes to get this up and running?

On my unit if the blue light only is showing I have to push the 'on' button which then gets the front panel showing '-- --' and then another push to get the box to actually go into fully active modes displaying channels.

Or should I just wait a bit longer and the unit will go from '-- --' to fully powered of it own accord?

Just one push of the power button should do it and then wait for it to eventually display a channel name.

Just tried it and that's not what happens on mine. I push of button goes from blue light to '-- --'and then the clock appears. You then have to do a further press to get the unit to displkay a channel both on the Tv and on the units front panel.

I think my problem is that the Samsung detects (by HDMI I assume as that's the only connection) if the Panasonic TV is on or not. If the TV is off or in stand-by the Samsung automatically goes into 'deep sleep'.

So once the TV is on the Samsung detects this and wakes up. But only as far as the clock mode. You then have to push the power button again to get it to full operation.

Anybody else experienced such a situation?

I to have panasonic tv with samsung connected on hdmi 1 and it only requires on samsung remote, 1 push on STB and 1 push on TV to bring on last channel viewed.

I have the Viera Link option enabled so the TV and Home Cinema can talk to each other. Can that be the problem?

Also just tried the Samsung remote, as I usually operate everything with a Harmony 300, and even with its dedicated remote the Samsung needs two standby button pushes - one to wake up from 'deep sleep' - which gets me to the clock on the front panel status and another to actually get the unit fully on and showing channels. I have turned the 'power save' option off too.

Very odd.

It must be to do with your settings within the samsung, and also the viera settings on your panasonic tv.
Perhaps someone on this forum will know the correct settings.

I think so too. The Samsung certainly knows when the TV is in standby or off and turns itself to standby accordingly. Then after a few minutes it goes into 'deep sleep'. The only connections are a HDMI to the TV and a Optical lead to the Home Cinema system - also Panasonic.

Other than this problem and a few other niggles (iPlayer lip synch and youtube access) I like the box a lot so it would be nice to sort this issue out.

your connections are as mine are, have you tried turning viera link off, also do you have samsung remote coded to run your tv.
Other than this I can not help, I was hoping someone would come in on this.
Hope you sort it, good luck.

I have the Samsung remote coded to use the TV. Though in 'TV' mode it only seems to control the channel and volume not the STB menus etc. This is why I use a Harmony 300 which can control so much more.

Will try with Viera Link off. But then the TV and Home Cinema won't switch to right inputs correctly etc. But at least I'll know that's the problem.

Still a great STB though.
