At our shop we have a piece of kit that calls up a mobile number to communicate to our mobiles with text messages that vtell us when the alarm is set/unset, alarms and other stuff.
The number it calls is 07960 980480, but this number now seems either permanently engaged or just doesn't answer at all. O2 (who run the number) don't seem to even know what i'm talking about!
Vodafone also have an access number, but although it does answer, it chirps for a few seconds and hangs up.
The T-Mobile one no longer exists.
Anyone use such a service and can recommend something reliable?

I'd be interested in this too, we use(d) this same TAP number for our server monitoring software to send a text if a server went down.

Are you sure it's O2 who used to run this?

The number in question is owned by Everything Everywhere Ltd, so I'd think Orange or T-Mobile are the network who ran a service on it.

Trial and error. Seems TAP\SMS and message centres in general are extremely low priority these days. I have spent many hours over the last few weeks getting some af these devices to work. It would appear that they may sometimes work, but there's no guarantees. The more reliable method is to just use a GSM comms device with a SIM card in it rather than SMS\TAP over PSTN.
