I was having a discussion with my mate before about Lady Gaga and with all these rumours she's announcing shows soon we spoke about going to see her because I saw the Monster Ball and thought it was really good. Anyway she replied saying "yeah defintley I can't wait to see mother monster!" and I just stared at her like what the hell?!

I mean i'm not a hater I like the woman but I find it so cringy to call her mother monster as if this person is in a different world! Anyone else feel the same?

The name is supposed to show the exclusiveness between Gaga and the monsters, yet although I love her to pieces I feel left out as I don't consider myself a core fan or a Little Monster and I don't like calling her Mother Monster

Thanks though it is true! To some "little monsters" on twitter I'm not regarded as a true Lady Gaga fan simply because I like Madonna

Haha it always makes me laugh when I see people who get so offended and angry if a person likes two artists who are "rivals". I really think it's unhealthy how much hatred some "little monsters" have in them1

It's not just lady gaga, it's the whole "lets have a name instead of fans" thing. What's wrong with just being a fan of someone?

I think it is rather cringe worthy, and it's worse that since she's done it pretty much everyone has now done it in Pop. It had been done before, but she definitely set the current trend. The most annoying thing about these labels is that you can't just be a fan anymore, because if you support Gaga (or whoever) you're just labelled a ''deluded little monster'' (or whatever) which isn't right.

A lot of the fanbase are really nice people I'll admit but there are some wackos but I suppose all fanbases have them

When singers do brand their fans with a name it's as if you're only supposed to like that singer's music and nobody else which is just silly

IMO it's all about marketing and trying to engender a cult like following so they basically buy any output and TBH I hate the whole concept. I'm assuming Gaga has some fans who are much older than teenage, can they really be comfortable being called a 'Little Monster'?? I see Jessie J, Cher Lloyd and Cheryl Cole have also adopted the 'approach'. Speaks volumes.

Of course there are older fans but I doubt they refer to themselves as such a name, being older I'd also imagine they like other artists. Was Gaga the first to name her fans or have others done it before?

It's not supposed to be taken seriously, it's just a fun term for the fans up for that kinda stuff.

IIRC 'Little Brats' and 'Soldiers', respectively. Cringe worthy.

I stan for the bitch, but I would never in a million years refer to her as that.

I don't mind her using it so much, but when anybody else does it's a tad weird. Especially when the younger ones take it ridiculously far and add "Daddy Monster" for her ex-BF.

The thing with "Little Monsters" is that it started of fine, because it was a tongue-in-cheek, affectionate diss to how rabid her fans got. It then got too cutesy, and again I would never use it.

I agree with what was said about it being a good marketing move. I don't think that was the intention, but she's certainly benefited from unifying her demographic into a collective cult-like following. If you want to make it in pop, you have to have an obsessive following, so nurturing them is invaluable.

The sheer volume of acts who have tried to jump on that bandwagon is quite staggering, if not directed by themselves then directed by the fanbase itself. I guess it's nice to have a feeling of community, but it basically made the stan wars worsen tenfold.

I think it is rather cringe worthy, and it's worse that since she's done it pretty much everyone has now done it in Pop. It had been done before, but she definitely set the current trend. Agreed, especially BIB.

"Little Monsters" have kind of become the ultimate infamous pop fanbase of late because of how publicised the title is, but it just lends itself to generalising and stereotyping like we're all complete nutters. I guess it's like Trekkies automatically being the most infamously geeky sci-fi clan simply because they have a well known title to refer to them as, unlike the others who could be far worse but aren't as easily referenced.

Awww guys, it seems I'm the only one who doesn't mind it!

As long as you don't take it too seriously and just take it all with a pinch of salt, it's kinda cute...

I find it kind of sweet but kind of cringey as well can't say I'd ever call her that though.

I don't mind refering to myself as a little monster and to be honest I love when she refers to her fans as little monsters, I find it kind of cute and even when I say it I'm not saying it in a completely delussional way. But I would never ever refer to Gaga as Mother Monster, she can but when others do then I'm just like "whaaaaaat?"
