Can you understand the logic that maybe its a form of American speech, but that its not the same exact thing as saying its "because she's American"? This is not hair splitting. The second implies that its some kind of default.
Use the example of Cockney someone else gave in another thread. Would it be fair to characterize all Cockney speakers as "an English facade"?
It's a regional thing, from a specific sub-culture. Its not even all that intelligible sometimes to most Americans.
