Why choose Sophie over Amelia?

This may have been discussed at the time, but why would Kelly have chosen Sophie over Amelia? Having heard Amelia last night, it doesn't make sense to me that she was sent home at the beginning.

Because the judges always knew that she would be coming back.

Not just coming back though......coming back with a hugh advantage.

How did they know that? And why would they want her to come back rather than be there from the beginning?

I think that Kelly genuinely loves Sophie's voice. She said during bootcamp that she would want Sophie to sing at her wedding and there was a story on DS that she wants to do a duet with her.

Because sophie was way in front of Amelia on the first show. Simples

Because it was planned all along. they tried to get rid of Misha with the Bullying stories and Kitty with the Racist stories but the public weren't biting so they decided to sacrifice Frankie (quite rightly) instead. That way they could bring Amelia back near the end of the show without the fear of her going early on and with the publicity they gave her after her departure could boost her popularity, whcih she needs being a mediocre singer as proved last night, and give her a better chance of winning

Kitty FTW!

So do 'they' want Amelia to win? And, if so, why?

I felt from the beginning that they wanted her to win and were setting Janet up as their 'shock chosen one exit.'

Cannot understand why as she is not as good as many on here lead us to believe. I personally preferred Sophie.

Honestly, I think they wanted to weaken the girls category. They got rid of Jade at JH and Amelia in the first live show, leaving Janet (who lacks the mass appeal needed to win), Sophie (who lacked the screen time needed to win), and Misha (who could have stood a chance of winning, had she not been conveniently hampered by bullying allegations that the producers probably scripted). IMO they wanted The Risk to win (the groups category really needs a win in order to justify its existence), and the girls looked like the biggest threat to that.

Of course, this was kind of ruined when The Risk lost support (and members) week on week; after they went, the producers probably decided they'd rather have a girl win than a boy, so they brought Amelia back.

The most logical reason is that Kelly based it on performances. Sophie's teenage dream was far better than Amelia's Billie Jean. It's just a shame Kelly gave Sophie bad choices, so that she lost her support (On DS, she was incredibly popular post-JudgesHouses, but now not so much)

I would have picked Sophie too. I think her voice had a very interesting tone and she sang brilliantly at judges houses and in the first live show where the decision was made — she was better than Amelia that day.

Sophie's performances after that were very disappointing, which is why she went from being one of the most popular contestants to one that not many people were that bothered about by the time she left.

Who knows. It was a terrible decision at the time and still is.

I guess Kelly made her picks in week 1 based on the performances. But later it turned out two of her girls, Janet and Sophie, are just one trick ponies and have no chance of actually winning the competition. Sophie is already out and Janet is struggling for 3rd week in a row now. That leaves Misha B, who is great and ready, but probably doesn't have a chance to win because of the bullying scandal.

Craig and Marcus are not exactly the types that would sell records, neither is Kitty. Little Mix are a girlband, could be gone next week. Both boybands are out of the picture and I believe they had high hopes for The Risk.

So, getting rid of no talent what-so-ever Frankie and bringing back Amelia was a no brainer.

Yep, Sophie's performance on the first show was better than Amelias, simple as that.

Put it this way - I think most of us with half a brain have figured out that this 'lets get rid of four people in week one - for the time being - we're going to have a mid-series breakdown one way or another - and we'll kindly let the public bring one back' was planned from the beginning (probably around the time of boot camp - maybe before). If they'd got rid of Sophie at that time - do you honestly think that she'd have been voted back. I think not!

Yes, but Amelia was given an unsuitable/dated song choice & distracting choreography (not to mention the horrendous makeover), whilst Sophie was given a modern song that suited her & showed off the best aspects of her voice. Given that song choices/choreography etc. are down to the producers, we should consider what reasons they had for setting Amelia up like that (and they must have known they were setting her up). It's not really as simple as 'one act performed better' at all.

I think it's very possible that Frankie's exit just provided a convenient excuse for bringing a contestant back, rather than actually instigating it. There were four contestants in last year's final, so it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to suggest that they might have wanted four this year too.

I much preferred Sophie at Judges houses and on the first live show. Teenage Dream is the only performance this whole series I have listened back to. So I think the decision was right.

I don't think Sophie progressed quite as well as she should on some of the other lives ...but I think the vocal coaches, musical arrangers and stylists have done a shockingly bad job at progressing most the artists this year. But she was still my favourite female artist.

I don't think Amelia is that amazing and in some other series would seem very average ...because the others have failed to progress (particularly Janet who by her own admission has gone right back to the beginning to start again) she seems more amazing than she really is ...thought her voice was a bit shouty last night

I would imagine that Kelly based in on the performance that night, in which case she made totally the right decision - Amelia is/was my fave by a country mile but she messed up. However, I knew Sophie had no chance, if I was in Kelly's place I'd have to let Sophie go - god knows Gary must've done it based on Frankie's former performances so I wouldn't have been alone!

She was obsessed with Sophie full stop.

BTW I'have been cool with kelly for weeks, way before Amelia was brought back or even a possibility. People make mistakes, and who are we not to forgive.....

Convenient that they happened to have four people in reserve though isn't it? And four people that no-one could argue about - as it was their own judges who put them out - not the public. Also one of those rejects was so much better than the other three - that realistically - if you value talent - and the kind of person who watches this show and votes - it was a 'no-brainer' as to which of the four would come back.

It has backfired in a way though and makes the makers look stupid and the judges/mentors not needed. I mean her 'unmentored' performance last night was streets ahead of even her nearest rival (Misha) which begs the question - what are the mentors there for? Apart from their own fame-hungry massive egos that is.

This is it plain and simple, Sophie gave a better performance of Teenage Dreams than Amelia gave of her first song choice. Sophie gave a polished performance and Amelia looked a mess. I think it is true that she has been performing at gigs since she was booted out to get her more experience.
