She sang every word of that song as if it had no meaning . Amelia made Zero Emotional connection with the song ,it was a case of once more without feeling. She relied on powerful vocals instead of good interpretation of the Lyrics.

Utter pretentious twaddle!

The trouble with Amelia is that she is not as good as she (and many DS posters) thinks she is.

I agree with last poster.. I think she will be a two show wonder and soon go down in peoples estimations.. Janet started off as favourite and now look where she is..

I agree - lots of hand extending (to camera) and sulky expressions, but no real connection with what she was singing.

This exactly. The whole performance just fell slightly flat for me - it felt like she could have been singing any random lyrics.

I do agree to an extent - however she was still better than some others.

Kitty had a poor week for her
Marcus wasnt as good as he could have been
Janet - yet again - was not good.

Amelia must be given time to grow. She can sing in tune, both low and high notes, and isnt as screechy as Kitty or Misha can be. The rest will come, though she maybe wont have the time the others have had.

Pretty sure shell be safe at least this week, and probably next.

I think she'd have been better picking a Gaga song - a teenage girl singing Queen? Doesn't work for me.

I really wish they'd get rid of the themed weeks and let them sing more up to date stuff - I've got a grandson but I don't want to here old songs. I'd rather listen to Adele etc not stuff from the 70s.

They're told what to sing every week when they should get a grip and choose their own.

The trouble with Amelia is that she's under-rehearsed.

There's clearly raw talent and ability there, but she wasn't given the chance to really explore and fine-tune her act so naturally with only one major performance under her belt with the vocal coaches/support team, it wasn't flawless.

She needs time to get herself sorted, but 'time' may be something the public aren't willing to give her at this point.

I think she'll fit into the show well though because she delivers what Kitty is trying to do, but less annoyingly and with better vocals. She may provide a theatrical alternative that the public can actually connect with. The fact that she's young and good looking will inevitably help.

You can't blame Amelia for the song choice as it was already pre determined that the winner of the phone vote would sing The Show Must Go On. I think it was the best performance of the entire series.

The trouble with Amelia is she is going to knock out and rival some fans' current favourites and they are not going to like it.........

So, is Lily Amelia's surname?

That every performance is identical. The fact that they kept her away from the competition for several weeks has masked this fact. As soon as we hear her a few times it will become obvious.

Unfortunately she will be much nearer the final by then (unfairly of course).

Barlow may not have time to come out with his "boring" and "always the same" remarks because she is still fresh in people's minds.

Exactly. The only thing that makes her stand out more is her age. If she were even as little as five years older, her talent would be considered pretty average.

Part of the problem with last night's performance however was the reverse. The song is not meant to be sung by someone so young. The lyrics would mean nothing to them and mean nothing coming from them.

Poor Amelia, first she's given a song with a lyric that sounds daft being sung by a woman and then she's given a song with a lyric that is inappropriate for someone as young as her. Is she going to be plagued with wrong song choices throughout the competition? I hope not.

Her surname is Oliver. Lily is her middle name.

It will be fascinating to see what happens tonight.

I'll bet half the TV audience didn't even know there was going to be a "twist" and must have wondered what the hell was going on. First they get 15 minutes of old auditions and then in the middle of the show there is a blast of trumpets and in walks someone who was eliminated weeks ago.

This.

I'm reading some of the comments on here about her and my jaw is almost hitting my lap. Talk about OTT hyperbole .
I see a young girl with a decent enough voice who doesn't come across as very likeable lacking in charisma and is a bit of a stage school brat. Maybe she could be ok in a few years once she loses the attitude and grows up a bit and yet she's being talked about like she is the biggest star ever to walk the planet.

Agree. I found it too West End-y and a bit dull. A technically impressive but artistically devoid performance.

Still, judges houses week showed she is capable of much better.

Amelia has no 'charisma' and I think she thinks she is something she is not! Remember reading she would prefer to do it on her own when she was booted the first week and that XF had done her a favour............. she def has no XF IMO

The trouble with Amelia is she seems the most needy and desperate - I think the problem is her dad.... When he was on BBC breakfast yesterday he admitted that he had no say or control over things he wasn't happy with in the house yet he was happy for her to carry on with it!!!

Agree with most posts on this thread/

The over praise on this forum was ridiculus but not unusual.

She has a decent voice but thinks she is better than she is. The comments from the judges and these type of fi=orums will only make it worse.

Having said that she was one of the better performers last night and they all get over praised to an extent

I'm not an Amelia fan--I find her annoying, but this thread is garbage. Half of you sound like bitter nit-pickers who are sour because Amelia was good.
"She did sound pretty good... I suppose, but... well, I-I Don't... SHE DIDN'T HAVE AN EMOTIONAL CONNECTION TO THE SONG. Yeah, that's it!"

Thats a really good point about the song choice, it really is one of those songs that shouldn't be sang by a youngster. There isn't any wonder she lacked emotional connection to the song as she wouldn't have been able to make a connection.

It was still a good performance vocally though but I did feel it lacked something, and I think that you might have highlighted what could be behind it.

Neither did Janet last night for me. But Id rather take someone who can sing in tune than someone who cant regardless of the emotional thing.

I openly liked Amelia and I agree with the emotional connection, so what does that make me?
