My dad came from the North east of England and then spent 40 odd years living down south in Kent.

To hear him you'd think he was born in Kent.

Then when we went up north on Summer holidays he would try putting on his old accent again.

This is a woman brought up in a very different culture to yours and for her to slip in and out of her indigenous vernacular is something that is culturally ingrained and entirely natural.
