The Iron Lady
Trailer is out, a link to it here: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz...-Thatcher.html
Am looking forward to this, love her or hate her, Maggie was definitely dramatic! |

I think the film looks great, although it's by the same director of Mamma Mia so I'm not sure what too expect
I love Meryl though...

Saw a trailer for The Iron Lady at the pictures last night. I'm not sure it's a film I'd really want to see, to be honest.
Bye for now Paula |

I think it's very difficult to make a successful biopic about such a divisive figure: you'll have some on one side saying it denigrates one of the greatest PMs who ever lived; on the other side you'll have people saying it glorifies a person who destroyed the country...
That said, I'm hoping it will be a very balanced portrayal. Whatever you think of Mrs T, she remains one of the most compelling and interesting leaders in political history. From the small clips, Streep looks very good in it. I think I'll probably give it a watch... |

I heard that Meryl Streep had her heart removed, to give a more accurate portrayal.

I thought this thread was about this film :-
http://uk.imdb.com/title/tt0056105/ But then I realised I'd remembered the title incorrectly

This looks absolutely dire. Will probably be skipping it.

I haven't been able to take Meryl Streep seriously since she began paralyzing her forehead. What kind of actor immobilises their face, for goodness sake.

Goodness! What a horrendous movie the trailers show! Yuck, yuck, yuck. Meryl Streep's accent and acting look like a spoof and farce. Yet every film critic in Britain praises her (see BBC News website for the article). Just bad parody all around.

Wow that looks good. Meryl seems to deliver on any role but i'll judge when I see it.

Apparantly, no references to her destroying Northern England, & UK economy generally. So this would be a fantasy film ........

Can't stand the woman (Maggie not Meryl) so I don't want to watch anything that may portray her in a positive light

Don't really like Thatcher either, but I know a good film when I see one, and this seems very well made. First impressions, of course.

I don't think I'll be able to watch a film which, according to reviews, skims over the negative and attempts to focus on Thatcher being some sort of feminist icon.
I think I just threw up a little in my mouth just typing that. |

Meryl is one of the best actors around at the moment and the fact she sounds soooo much like Mrs. Thatcher is testament to how fantastic she actually is. Cannot wait to see this!

Downfall was a great film about a rather unpleasant chap and I cant see any rationale in your comments. |

You can trace the current mess back to Thatcherism...
Having lived through the eighties I loather her for Section 28 and the Miners Strike. I am afraid it will be a feminist whitewash job but I know I will go and see it. |
