Cat pooping outside box

Hi all,

We've got 3 cats, pretty much in small, medium and XXL sizes (I kid you not). Now, the big one isn't overweight, he's just, well, big...

The problem is that he keeps partially missing the litter tray, sort of half pooping inside it and the other half pooping outside it. It's driving me MAD !! I don't think it's the cats fault, he's just massive.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a really BIG litter tray? We're pretty broke at the moment so want to spend as little as possible but I'm sick of cleaning up cat poop.

Thanks all!

Tara

I would move the little tray slightly to the right.

Have you thought about a covered litter tray? with a hood?
You can get space saving ones which are triangular and fit into the corner. Theyre great because you dont have to sweep up strewen litter grains that always fall outside the box.

How big is big? You might have to invest in something other than a tray. Like a children's sand box!!!

If he's too big for a regular litter tray, you might need to improvise...

My previous cat Jacob was a big lad, and I had this litter tray and it did the trick for his big bum and his scratching the litter enthusiastically,

I'm a firm believer in hooded litter trays, though Max often stands up to pee and managed to aim right on the join. It runs around and drips down, now the litter tray is stood on a big bit of sturdy plastic and I check for drips every day. At least it the hood means doesn't go all over the wall etc...

I had a similar problem and used a large plastic tray intended for "gardening" purposes - think it was for containing the mess when potting up plants . Unfortunately I can't remember where I got it from (and could be wrong time of the year too for such stuff) , sorry not a lot of real help.

Thanks for all the replies!

We have a hooded tray, which was a little better (although he'd still sometimes manage to get it half way down the front and on the door) but since we got a kitten, she won't use it and the other cat has just been using the lid-free one, we took the lid off! It's pretty frustrating really.

I think I'll try the OPTIONS one, it looks decent and it's a good price. Fingers crossed I won't have to clean much more poop off the floor!
