When an actor leaves, the character more than most leaves with them. Only in case of tragedy or child actors does this happen most.

I wonder why Soaps always have to be recast, when their predecessors are always the ones most identified in the role, though some recasts do work wonders.

I agree, some recasts still bug me, i.e Sam Mitchell in EastEnders yet others, namely Tracy Barlow in Corrie could only work with having the actor changed. No way could the Gothic Dawn Acton have been able to portray the sex-mad Tracy that we are all used to at the moment.

Rumours about the possible return of Michelle Fowler to EastEnders with a "new head" annoy me, because for me, the role of Michelle can only be played by Susan Tully.

Yes, even US soaps have those characters that will never be recasted and if EE was a US soap, Michelle would be one of them.
