Just had the tablet over a week now and thought I'd give my initial thoughts

a) It feels very nice in the hand but I'm always conscious that if I drop it it is going to break horribly, still waiting for the cover to arrive so I can take it out of the safety of the house

b) It can be a bit laggy, especially when moving around on the internet. Have only had the chance to use it over wifi and will report back on 3g via Vodafone when I get the chance to sit on the train

c) Not many tablet specific apps although the Mrs has monopolised it after seeing the Google Body app which she says is an excellent medical reference tool

d) Screen is pretty good. Quite responsive but don't like the way that websites, eg the digital spy forum assume it';s a mobile browser and gives me the mobile site. This was more of an issue with the built in browser but have tried Opera and that seems to be a lot better

e) Kies... Cannot get the tablet to talk to Kies via the USB cable. It keeps asking for the USB mode to be changed. The USB option is missing on my tablet. Can use it over wireless but is an additional PITA

f) Battery life. Not too bad but haven't really taxed it much

g) No allshare... This is a great addition on my Galaxy S2 but missing on the TAB. apparently it will be included in the future but surely would have been not too difficult to implement.

h) It was cool that it automatically downloaded the apps that I already had on the Galaxy S2 when I initially set it up with my google account. Some of them were not really useful for the tablet so I deleted them. I'll try the video skype facility when I get them time as apparently sykpe supports video calling with the Tab.

I'll add more as I get to play with it more

b) Are you referring to the speed at which pages load? Note that it will be slower than e.g. an iOS device due to the presence of Flash on many websites.

d) There's also the popular Dolphin Browser where one is able to set it to be a desktop or mobile browser when communicating with websites.

I bought a 8.9 GT from Hong Kong and am loving it. I think some of the niggles will be sorted out with an updated OS especially Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). What version of Honeycomb are you running?

My brother owns the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and with my help he rooted it and put a custom ROM on it. Then last week he received a notification on the Tab that an update was available and without thinking about it he tried to install it. I had warned him not to accept any OTA updates as it would probably soft brick the Tab, which it did.

He decided that rather than go through the hassle of putting a custom ROM on the Tab he was just going to stick with the stock ROM, which I guided him through the re-installation of.

He lasted less than 24 hours with the stock ROM, before he decided to put a custom ROM back on it. The reason being was how slow stock is in comparison to a custom ROM.

So my advice if you want a faster Tab is to Root it and install a custom ROM.

As far as I know he is happy with the ROM. Havent heard from him so that must mean that it is stable and not giving him a problem.
