This is a petition for everyone who likes Mike Baldwin to post in so Corrie don't write him out.

I know he is going in 2006 but I think Corrie can do better than that rather than write him out so therefore here is a petition to keep Mike in Weatherfield.

If we get enough posts we could show this to Corrie producers and they may re-consider.

Wasn't it already confirmed he wasn't being written out?

I thought in real life that Johnny Briggs wished to leave and enjoy life at his age.
That is why his chirpy nephew was brought in.

Good luck to Johnny, life's for enjoying

If Johnny wants to leave, then theres nothing we can do about it...its his choice.

However, if he is being forced out, then it is a disgrace!

I understood that it was his wish to be written out so that he can spend more time playing golf. But either way, a petition will make no difference at all to the decision.

Why not?

There has been a petition about the Todd storyline and that got dealt with.

The producers looked at it and they gave it some thought.

I thought he wanted to go in 2006, which is his 30th year in the show? The producers are accommodating his request. He'll be 71 by then, and surely noone begrudges him his retirement?!

Sorry dalton, Minnie is right - petitions are so commonplace that no-one at Granada will give a damn.

Anyway, as much as Mike Baldwin is a Weatherfield institute in himself, I think that it's only fair that older characters are treated in this way.

Other oldies, albeit from a long time ago, stayed in the show for so long that they had to leave due to ill health - providing us with very shaky exit storylines, not very fitting of their character. For instance, when Violet Carson was too sick to continue as Ena Sharples, Ena was packed off to St-Annes and never heard of again. The same can be said of Minnie Caldwell, Annie Walker and more modern characters like Phyllis Pearce, Percy Sugden and Maud Grimes.

Both Mike and Johnny are deserving of a massive exit storyline since he has put so much into Coronation Street over the past 28 years. I'd rather Baldwin went with a bang than merely fizzling out.

Lol. It didn't work though did it? Unless I missed the part where Todd and Karl walked off into the sunset together hand in hand.

I watched a documentary featuring Johnny Briggs a few years ago and he said then that when his children had finished with their education, he and his wife were going to retire to Florida. So 2006 might be the right time for him to do this. I also think that they brought in Bradley Walsh to replace him.

What is the point? Yeah I like him but his character isn't really doing anything. He should leave with a bang, he deserves it.

Also, by making other forum names to increase the vote doesn't work

If he has just been axed then it wouldn't be right IMO, but if it was the actors choice to leave, then so be it. He has been such a brilliant part of the soap and dedicated years of his life to it, so if he wants to go, its his choice, no petition can change this.

Johnny Briggs is on the Street's "SAFE" list, along with Bill Roache (Ken Barlow), which means neither will EVER be axed.

Johnny Briggs is leaving in 2006 to retire from the show, which is why the Baldwin family have been introduced in 2004. The family (including Mike) will be involved in a storyline which sees a row erupt over who inherits Mike's money. He will die of a long terminal illness in 2006, so it will be a long-running storyline - but he has NOT been sacked.

hope this clears things up!
