Capstar for fleas

Anyone used these tablets? Any good? I'm (and the cat) desperate. Frontline and spraying the house hasn't worked. Nor has Frontline Combo. Willow is going into a cattery soon and I'm sure they won't be happy if he has fleas (he's 11 and this is the first time he has had fleas and the poor darling is infested).

If he is, so is your house.

I don't know what you used on the house, or how thoroughly. Two suggestions - ring your vet for advice, and check the FAB website for advice.

PS suggest you get a Milbemax from the vet as well to worm him, or whatever your vet prescribes. Fleas are part of the tape-worm life cycle.

I have used these (http://www.jvp.co.uk/catsdogs_4fleas.php) which seem to have the same ingredient, and so far they have worked very well. Of course they don't do anything about the fleas in the home and they do increase the itching while they are taking effect but after that, the cats appear to be completely free of fleas.

The effect is short term but can be repeated at intervals.

We've literally done all we can. The vet has seen him and prescribed the Frontline Combo and gave us stuff to spray the house (which we've done twice), he is also wormed regularly. I was hoping to get something to treat Willow from the INSIDE as opposed to the outside. I've had cats my whole life and have never had this much trouble with fleas. The vet said there is an epidemic this year due to the mild weather. Also, we've just moved to the middle of nowhere, so there are lots of other critters around for him to catch fleas off,he has a wonderful life roaming the nearby countryside but not so good for fleas!

I would go back to the vets and look for a change in treatment. Also you probably need to persist with spraying the house until this is fixed, as the cocoons really hang on. From the FAB website:

Quote:
“For some treatments there may be a time lag of weeks to months during which fleas may continue to develop.”

Think you need to move away from fipronil at least for now, and also look at giving your cat Program as it prevents the eggs the fleas which are on him now are laying from developing. From the FAB website, Capstar will affect adult fleas (as should the other effective flea products) but won't do anything for the eggs.

Sorry but it feels to me like you have a big infestation in the house and until that is cleared up your cat will continue to have fleas. And since you say you have 'just moved' it might well be the house was infested when you moved in and you have having to clear up after the previous owners.
