I recently replaced my old Ericsson T28 with the Ericsson T68 and for the last few days i've just started to use WAP.

I'm using the vizzavi service; but i'm finding it extremely s-l-o-w, a lot of missing pages (404 errors), and most of the time the WAP service doesn't work at all. I've also found that i can't access certain sites through vizzavi, but using opera on my PC i can access the sites fine.

Is this normal for vizzavi, or is it just becuase it's free this month?

Can anyone recommend any other WAP providers, that are reliable?

I use Vizzavi on my Vodafone and I agree it is very poor quality. I hardly ever use it because for one I think 10p per minute is expensive anyway, and like you say it is quite slow. Plus, I don't think any of the WAP content that I have looked at on it is anything spectacular. I'd be really disappointed if I'd bought a phone specifically for WAP.

As for other providers, I'm not sure but some searching on the net may give some details of other providers and how to set them up. I don't know about the phone you have but the 3330 has space to add other providers, all you need to do is look up the various connection settings ie dial-up number, IP address, home page etc and put them in.

I would have personally had some free text messages rather than free WAP because it's rubbish and I won't use it.

Thinking about it, I would have thought that the WAP providers available depend on your network. I may be wrong though, I haven't tried adding any others to mine.

I hope to be using GPRS later this month, which will hopefully speed things up, but at the moment is seems to be a *lot* slower that 9.6kb/s - it can take 30 seconds odd to load up a page with a few words on it.

I haven't really found anything that interesting either, but i like that find & seek thing on the vizzavi site, and i'm also using WAP to download ringtones and background images.

How the f**k do Vodafone ever think WAP is going to be successful if the service never works.

The WAP service on Genie (which is free for Genie customers) is fantastic, it's got train times, cinema times, the sort of stuff WAP really is good for. Plus obviously you can access any other WAP site on the internet, such as the soon-to-be-great http://wap.digitalspy.co.uk/

I''ve just changed to the genie gateway and it's a lot faster! I still have to use the vodafone WAP number though, and it's not always possible to connect to that.

Just out if interest, how many hits do you get a week on the WAP site?

Not as many as the main site to be sure. Around 10,000 I think last time I checked.

I'm currently working on a much improved service that should arrive shortly.
