Iam really tempted to get this phone. Quick question, does wp7 work well with gmail, google contacts and calender or is locked down to hotmail services?
WP7 works fine with gmail, contants and calendar. AFAIK, you can only see the primary calendar with each google account not secondary calendars.

Contacts is fine.

GMail works well but GMail works best on an android phone naturally. It's just because Gmail have their non-standard way of operating with the labels and all mail vs inbox etc.

If your main interest is in receiving your gmail on the phone and maybe sending out some replies, it works just fine.

I use my gmail as a primary place for my contacts and as one of my emails. I could even use push notifications with it. I have three emails set up, one is Exchange server with push notifications, then gmail and another account using IMAP. I have two private emails aggregated into one mailbox and the work one is separate. I use my Exchange account for calendar, too. You can choose what parts of each account you want to synchronise with. It all works as it should. MS know better than try to restrict you, in this phase anyway

I am always glad to see when people with expertise won't keep it to themselves and share it with us, less fortunate

How did it feel? One of my nit pics with my desire is its unattractive design and cheap feel.

Yeah, I am not a fan of HTC design either. I got my hands on Lumia 800, compared to other phones I tried (HTC Trophy, Samsung Omnia, HTC HD7) this one is smaller, 3.7'' display, I think. It certainly does not look cheap, the quality of the display is stunning. Despite a small size I had no problem typing on the touch keyboard. If you go through this thread, there are 2 Lumia review videos posted. I basically agree with what is said there. This is a quality phone, nothing cheap about it.

No use for me. Now.. if the N950 had been released, running Maemo 6...

Considering I run Ubuntu everywhere - no help at all.

Personally, mine has been fine - better performance than my HTC HD7. Some people have had lower battery performance and Nokia is preparing two updates to counter this.

Some people have had faulty phones (my friend included) where the phone just suddenly dies and cannot be revived at all but this is a minority.

How many minutes and texts would you use a month? Did you want an 18 or 24 month contract, and do you want no Internet included or around 500mb?

You can get the Lumia on T-Mobile with 300 mins, ultd txts and 500MB for a total cost over two years of £510.

Either £15pm + £150 upfront.

Or £20pm and £30 upfront. (This seems better).

Given the payg cost of the phone is £400. You are basically paying £5pm over two years for the line rental part.

Where are you getting the second deal from, can't find anything on the T-Mobile website.

e2save is full of redemption deals, i'm not too keen on that! I've heard horrible things about these redemption deals and basically you get ripped off. How trustworthy is e2save?

Ok, i've been offered the following on T-Mobile through their Retentions dept. Can anyone tell me if this sounds like a good deal?

I don't do 24 month contracts, so for an 18 month contract - £25.54pm where i receive 300 mins/unlimited texts/free internet (500mb allowance) and i have to pay £50 upfront for the phone. So in total i'm paying £459.72 + £50 = £509.72 for 18 months,.

Does that sound like a good deal?

PS. I'm trying to get the best deal i can but so frustrated with Retentions as they don't seem to be willing to negotiate or see me as a valued customer despite being with them since 2003 and having just come off my 4th 18month contract with them!

Free handset, 600 minutes, unlimited Texts and 500mb internet from Vodafone for £25.54 per month, discounted to £14.54 for the first six months, on a 24 month contract.

So they offered you the same total cost over 18 months as you'd pay over 24 months on my deal. The main difference being that on mine you get an extra six months of service.

I presume the reason you want 18 months is so that you don't have to wait two years to upgrade your phone?

So you have to trade off 6 months worth of line rental, mins, texts n data versus upgrading an extra 6 months early. (I know which I'd take).

If you took two 18 month deals at say £1,020 (£510 each time), going for my deal you need only spend £630 (£510 for 2 years then £10pm simo for the final year).

That would give you almost £400 to spend on a sim-free phone at a time of your choosing. Either way you would be able to achieve having two phones within three years.

Ended up getting the Nokia Lumia in Black. 18 month contract - £25.54pm with 600mins, unlimited texts and free internet (usual fair policy, 500mb) having to pay £50 for the phone upfront.

However i didn't get that through T-Mobile. T-Mobile retentions dept. were charging me £160 upfront for the phone on that price plan. On their website, on the same plan, the price for the phone is £200 if you're a brand new customer. I got my deal through Chitter Chatter.

Hope i don't regret it!

Got my Nokia Lumia 800 upgrade with T-Mobile with the phone locked to T-Mobile. I'm having a major problem setting up my phone, the sim won't register! I purchased a PAYG T-Mobile sim card and cut it down to size via a sim cutter tool and when inserted and switched on the top left hand corner tile where the pic of a phone is shown it says 'no service'. The booklet that comes with the sim says once sim is inserted it will send text messages to the phone with the settings, but i haven't received anything.

So then i went to Settings - System Applications and scrolled down to Mobile Settings and on the screen under Active Network it says 'no network found'. So then i scrolled down the screen to Network Selection and clicked on Automatic where it did a search and it gave me a selection of of various networks so i picked T-Mobile. Once i did that it started registering and Network Selection then changed to 'T-Mobile' but nothing changes because under Active Network it still says 'no network found'! So then i went to Settings - Systems Applications and scrolled down to Phone and i went to Call Settings. And on the screen it recognised the phone number of my PAYG sim which was shown and then it started registering again but still nothing changes. I just don't get it.

It's my first touchscreen smartphone, i'm a total newbie and i'm really struggling. Maybe i'm just being totally thick and don't realise. Can anyone who has the NL800 please help me out with this? I just don't understand why it doesn't work!!!

So the text message sending settings won't work with windows phones. But that generally doesn't matter, the only thing you might need to enter is your APN details for mobile internet.

But you should be able to get voice and text without having to do that. Do you know anyone else with a micro-sim you can try to check it out?

Go back to Settings, set network selection to automatic. Let it register to T-Mobile as it did before. Then, reboot the phone (turn on and off). See if that helps.

It seems like it's picked the up the relevant settings from the T-Mobile sim. Do you get T-Mobile signal in your area? Is the 3G switched on for your phone?
