well gaga has proclamied born this way her 3rd album. though its her 2nd full on album. her 2nd major release the fame monster is her 2nd album but its released as an extended play but her fans like me consider it a 2nd album. so can we btw a 3rd album, released 2 and a half albums or just 2 albums itself?

I used to see The Fame Monster as album #3 but it's sales are joined with The Fame here atleast just like any other rerelease so now I see it just as such, with Born This Way being album #2. However I'm just as happy to except it as album #3 aswell because in some places TFM was released as it's own enitity and it's sales counted seperate from TF. But then in these places it's just an EP ... so I don't know.

I see it as a second
The fame monster for me was still a direct link to the Fame

I don't know how there can even be a debate. She's produced two full length albums and an EP.

There CAN be a debate because a lot of people (including myself) consider 8-track EP's as real albums. If most albums, as you define them, contain 10-12 tracks, then why can't I label an 8-track cd as an album...what's the difference?Besides, this EP was a whole era with 3 singles, 3 videos, a whole lot of promo and a tour

I consider it her third, despite it technically being her second.

TFM was far more than a re-release, it may have been short on tracks and tagged onto TF, but it was in essence her sophomore effort. New batch of songs, new hits, new visuals, new tour, new Gaga. It had very little correlation to TF beyond title. It was also available as a separate EP.

Whilst on the subject, I think her biggest mistake so far was not to have 'Monster' as her second official LP.

In Lady Gagas eyes it's not an album, it's an EP, and it is what the artist says it is. It was just an extension of The Fame. I can't see how it can be debated.

Although to be fair people can call it what they like (album, ep, single...) but officially it's an EP.

I beg to differ

So you agree.

You can consider an EP an album. You can consider an EP an ostrich, or a small weekend villa in Barcelona if you like but it won't change the fact that it is an extended-play, not an album.

Of course I agree that it was an EP, but the term itself is very confusing. The only thing that I can deduce based on "extended play" is that it's not a single, but aren't the albums extended plays too??For me and for many people, EP's = albums and I think I've already explained why I say that And you have to admit that considering an EP an album is much more rational than comparing it to a villa...Just saying...

I think TFM can be classed as an album.

8 Tracks falls into this grey area between EP and album.

I mean for example; Kate bush is releasing a seven track album this month but it's over 60 minutes long. What makes it an album when the 8 track 35 minute fame monster is classed as an ep? and what classes Rihannas new album which is 11 tracks and about 35 minutes long as an album?

There needs to be a specific amount of length/and or track numbers to class something as an album or EP I think.

I personally think of it as her third album. I don't know what the rules are for EPs/LPs but surely at eight tracks and 34 minutes The Fame Monster would count as a full-length album? I mean Cher Lloyd's new album is ten tracks and 33 minutes, and Goldfrapps last album was nine tracks and 38 minutes, and they're both counted as LPs.

Technically it is her second album but i am inclined to see it as her third, the progression from The Fame into The Fame Monster is so huge that they just clash.

In Gaga's case, I'd say that all of her music releases which aren't singles or EPs (and I guess it's an EP if the record company goes to the bother of telling us it is) are "albums".

I suppose "studio album" is probably the best term, otherwise we'd have to count the remix album(s) she's released.

So, with all that in mind, I quite happily consider Born This Way her second studio album proper.

I agree with this.

Funnily enough, apart from the singles, I was unimpressed with TF, but I loved every track on TFM.
Yes, it was a bit short, but IMO had no fillers at all.

I would rather have an 8 track album that's brilliant, to a 12 track album that's quite good.

Second. But it should have been third. The Fame Monster was a silly idea. There's some great songs on there and they weren't given the exposure they deserved as TFM was seen as a re-release.

Second, I think TFM was more a re-release than a full studio album. I liked it though.

TFM was more than just a re-release. If it wasn't, there wouldn't be any question.

How many re-releases do you know of that involve an 8 track EP that was available separately, spawned 3 hits and won a Grammy?

I agree with this.

You never know, she could have provided more brilliant tracks. She has a knack for that. Bloody Mary from BTW was actually supposed to be on TFM I heard.
