In the mid-30s already? Even I'm surprised.
Yeh he is doing well isnt he? Week 6 in the busiest part of the year with big new releases pouring in week on week and he's holding steady. Quite a few bigg-ish names released after him, hit the top 5 or 10 and have fallen below him. He got the 9th biggest debut sales total of the year too - in just 5 weeks. I'm pleased for him.

In a word, no. The massive fall of the album puts an awful lot of pressure on 'Starlight' when it's released.

I'm off to Tesco in a minute so I'll be sure to do my regular check on the in-shop album charts.

Your a Rebecca fan right? given that there's a strong possibility that she won't do as well as Matt you shouldn't gloat too much about chart positions.

I'm sure you will... I can sort of picture you moving all Matt's CDs off the stand, surreptitiously, to feel better.

Massive fall? He hasnt had a massive fall at all in the present climate, as I'm sure you know. Hes done really well. Not spectacularly like Noel G - but really well. Mind you, you predicted it would plummet like a stone after week 1 if I remember... Was that you?

Enjoy Tesco!

why do you insist on trolling about Matt? The album has been out 6 weeks and has sold close to 150k units, his fans are happy, they love the album and are happy with how things are going.

You don't like him - we get it - let it go!!

Impatiently waiting for Kapellmeister return so that he can enlighten us about his local Tesco store charts. Who cares about the midweeks when you have this personally researched information!

In a year of low sales, It has sold very well, It has outsold Joe's 1st album in a matter of weeks and will sell even more with the next single and christmas to come.

I will hold my hand up for predicting it to be a flop. It's not a flop and that should be clear to everyone at this stage.

On the other hand, One Direction's album has been out one week and has sold close to 150k units. I'm sure Simon feels well justified in holding onto 1D whilst offloading half the risk of Cardle to Columbia.

You like him - we get it - let it go!!

1D are a boyband with a boyband's demographic and they've sold really well after a large outlay (which they're well on the way to justifying bless 'em). And I'm really happy for them.

But you think Simon is comparing Matt to them? Seriously? Matt's outlay has been a fraction of 1Ds, he has a very different demographic - and his album is selling well, his tour is effectively sold out and he's gigging all over the place (BRMB live his weekend with James Morrison, Pixie Lott, JLS, & Her Cherness). He hasnt flopped. I can see its really, really hard, but how painful would that be for you to acknowlege?

Actually I wonder how you'll compare Rebecca's (sorry 'Ferguson's') sales with 1D's.

(And a joint deal is 'offloading the risk' onto Columbia? Eh? I assume he's 'offloaded the risk' of Rebecca onto Epic?)

Considering the album is still in the Top 40 after 6 weeks, the lad hasn't done bad. Believe he has a gold disc to go with it. What is your version of a massive fall?

Very good week for album sales in general as according to Music Week Christmas shopping has started

With the Christmas shopping season apparently beginning in earnest, overall album sales are up nearly a million (40.39%) week-on-week to a 2011 best of 3,427,302 - but that's 8.27% below same week 2010 sales of 3,736,406.

Any word on where Cher is in the singles chart? I see Rebecca is at 26 which is where Cher was. Rebecca could fall behind Cher in her 2nd week.
