Does anyone know Cher Lloyd's USA sales
She pushed more than 1 million copies of Want U Back in the USA.

Anyone know the exact figures for this and her other singles and albums?

This pretty much tells the story of why JLS is breaking up.

So sad - because they could have come up with a good next album after Evolution (and not the Greatest Hits). All they needed was a breakout US hit and they would have stayed together (most likely).

Hold Me Down was an unfortunate single choice. Hottest Girl In the World might have had a better chance in the US in a post "Blurred Lines" music world - however, it needed a stronger melody to hit US radio big.

They tried to crack the US with their first album, with Everybody In Love, but it never took off.

Well no doubt when they picked that track over the other singles or even songs on that album. I'm sort of sad to see JLS go, they always had the potential to be great but never quite delivered as far as I was concerned. We really need an all singing AND dancing boyband though, I'm holding out for a UK version of SHINee.

Nice to see Little Mix holding up well with their second era so far, hopefully Little Me will continue that, I'm a little worried that that song my halt the momentum.

Capital are already playing it, so hopefully it'll do well.

I think they're still about 5.000 copies short of 1 million for UAN. TMH on the other hand is WAY over 800k, it's sold almost 250k this year and did 616k last year.

So they could do 1m for UAN this week (next week the latest) and could reach 3x platinum for TMH before the end of the year, certainly early next year.

HDD's one-day-prediction for One Direction's new album (USA)

Quote:
“YOUR NEW RELEASES: After one day of sales, Midnight Memories by One Direction looks set for an even bigger bow than that of their previous release, 2012’s Take Me Home, which opened with 540k. Here's what we're looking at for the week's key debuts.

One Direction (SYCO/Columbia) 550-600k
A Day to Remember (ADTR) 45-50k
Danielle Bradbery (Big Machine) 35-40k

In other news, we've decided to forego the stuffing and fill this year's turkey with booze. (11/26p)”

http://www.hitsdailydouble.com/news/rumormill.cgi

"Story of My Life" is already certified GOLD (500K), so far the radio seems to like it, too.

Oh ... and Danielle Bradbery is the latest winner (season 4) of The Voice USA.

So sad about the major album leak a full week ahead of release in the UK and almost 10 days in America. The 1D boys probably lost 150k in album sales at least.

Some fans viewed Harry Styles statement that he would probably download it for free if he was a fan as permission to download.

I am not sure I agree with you. A lot of non fans listened to the leak and liked it and bought so they gained buyers. And there will always be illegal downloads whether through leaks or down load sites

A news-making leak a full week in advance in the UK and almost 10 days in America does not gain buyers for first week sales - ultimately a fan that downloads an album may decide to buy it, but they don't need to rush out and buy it the first week. (I was, of course, talking first week sales).

There's another reason this leak was bigger - it was a PUBLICIZED leak - well publicized. Many fans who would normally not even know about a leaked album found out about it, and Harry all but gave them permission to download it.

You can bet the record company has the numbers of the damage this leak has caused. Remember, the leak was mainly for top edition of the album AND even MTV had articles about how "weak" fans were "tempted" and ultimately downloaded the album.

These days pretty much all albums "leak". That's because album release days are different in different countries. For example, in the UK, albums get released on Mondays, in the US on Tuesdays or Mondays (some big releases, Black Friday week, etc), but in Ireland, it's out on Friday (before the UK, US). Lady Gaga's "Artpop" "leaked" well in advance because it was released in Japan first, I think more than a week sooner. Albums also leak because stores put CDs on sale prematurely sometimes. It happens.

If the album gets streamed somewhere online (like iTunes), the stream gets ripped.

To conclude, it's nearly impossible to keep an album under wraps until the release day. Not in this day and age. Real fans know that they have to support their favorite artists and buy the album when it becomes available.

Everything you said has merit - except you do not give any credit to the extreme publicity this album leak received.

I can't remember an album link that has gotten more ink. And then, Harry Styles, basically gives fans the permission to download it. A good number of those guys will not have the need to rush out and buy it first day or first week. This press reached people who never even considered downloading.

BUT who leaked it? The guy from the Sun (I think) who had exclusive first review had to fly to States to listen to it as apparently all copies were kept in locked room. Could it be possible the label leaked the album as a marketing tool and it sure has worked . Neither you nor I will know whether they have more or less sales from the leak. It is pure supposition to say they have lost x amount of sales. It looks like they will beat their last album sales which means MORE people are buying

I think some store put it on sale prematurely. I saw pictures on twitter.

Anyway, I think that those that planned to get the album illegally would do that with or without the leak. It's just too easy to find HQ CD rips or iTunes versions of new music. All we can do is to encourage the fans to buy the album.

every sales prediction I saw for this album, starting with the first one I saw back in june from columbia, was in the 450-550 range for the us so it must not have cost them much.
