Confused over software version for DG250TRA08
Lesleycc
17-11-2011
Hello,

I have two TUTV DG250TRA08 pvrs. They have both developed the same fault (cycling through PLS WAIT after powering on). Previously it was suggested I tried reloading the software. I've tried that today and it seemed to load successfully - displaying OAD. But with the same PLS WAIT problem.

So here is my confusion - I believe these are both T845 and not T845R. Looking at the entry http://www.vestelpvr.futaura.co.uk/T845.php the latest software version for this is 4.34. But if I look at base of both units they say Sw Ver V.0.50 and V.0.48 respectively which seems completely different to the version 4.34 in that link, and more like the version 0.7 for a T845R.

So can anyone please clarify this for me, and if possible let me know if I can get the T854R v 0.5 or 0.7 software - it seems no one has been able to do that so far.

Many thanks

Firstly, the v4.34 software on my site is not the latest - it was just the latest build at the time when somebody forwarded the software to me. It is there purely to allow people to unbrick their box, which may mean it is a downgrade, but then it should auto update to the latest version anyway. Also, I'm confused by the TUTV version numbering, because the filename of that software contains both 4.34 and 5.12, so maybe it is 5.12 and not 4.34. You may be better off asking about the PLS WAIT problem in the TUTV forum.

Why do you want the T845R software? It cannot be used with the T845 unfortunately, which is locked to the TUTV software.

Hi again,

Well I'm not 100% sure it is a T845 and not a T845R and the fact the software versions are 0.48 and 0.5 it seems closer to the version number for a T845R. So I thought I'd try it if possible - is the T845R not used on TUTV boxes?

The boxes do 'respond' to the software upload (the PLS WAIT stops cycling temporarily and I get an OAD at the end). I can't think what else to try

Cheers.

Well, if the boxes are TUTV, then they will be T845s - the T845R boxes ran the regular non-TUTV Vestel Freeview+ software. Normally the software upload via RS232 is required if FAIL appears after PLS WAIT. If it gets stuck on PLS WAIT, have you tried pressing and holding the power button down on the front panel when PLS WAIT appears and releasing it when FORMAT appears? This will reset the unit to factory defaults and erase any recordings that you may have saved on it. Others with more knowledge of TUTV than me may have a less severe solution to recovering your boxes.

Hi again, thanks for such a quick response. The boxes IDs on the back actually say ...DVRL1070T845PDigihome... the P is intriguing but that may just be a red herring.

I can't invoke FORMAT, only REVERT, on both boxes which doesn't help. I have also posted this on the TUTV Forum to see if that helps. Ho hum

If your unit has the identification of TUTV DG250TRA08 then it is definitely a T845 with the TUTV software. They were sold in Tesco during late 2008/9. Unless of course the front panel has been changed or the motherboard has been changed.

Software versions 0.5 and 0.7 are very old versions installed on early units. The latest software version is 7.04. If you unit is able to receive updates and put into standby it should pick this up. TUTV generally transmit the latest software continuously. Software version 7.04 is awful IMO as have been virtually all TUTV software versions with a couple of exceptions.

The latest software is usually continuously transmitted by Top Up TV. The latest for most TUTV PVRs is 7.09. Although if 4.34 is working acceptably for you I suggest you keep it as 7.09 is rubbish, especially if you intend to use the Freeview+ 7-day Guide. If you really want to update you need to put the unit in standby and let it pick it up.

Ref the HDD if it is a Vestel T845 PVR it should have a SATA HDD. Maybe futaura will comment?

The USB port doesn't do anything.

Good luck with V7.09 if you hope the use the 7-day Guide. I abandoned it soon after release. It fails to retain Series Record settings for more than a few days and frequently misses individual recordings.

By the way I realise TUTV incorrectly refer to the the Freeview+ Guide as 8-days. The Freeview+ website refers to it as 7-day. It only has 8-days of data shortly after midnight. The 14-day guide is more reliable on the TUTV PVRS but of course it a not Freeview+ compliant as it does not support Accurate Recording and is not dynamically updated. It does have one advantage when used as a last resort back-up when my Freeview+ recorders fail to record due to broadcaster error.
