Pearl Jam Pointless Greatest Hits Album
I'm a big fan of Pearl Jam and they usually have their fingers well on the pulse of their fans. They also send fan club members only special recording once a year.
But the majority of Pearl Jam fans will already have all of the track on their greatest hits.... bit silly if you ask me, they could have done something else surely? Smells of record company contractual obligation to me |

No doubt it'll be the record company putting it out , but the fact is that greatest hits are big sellers.
The best of the Eagles was the biggest selling LP in the history of the world - probably still is. If you think about it though, even though the band often has no input, for someone trying to get into a certain band's music, a greatest hits is the best way. If they were maybe too young first time around, they buy the gratest hits like it and then might explore the real albums. Greatest hits are normally not for fans. |

I have to agree - greatest hits albums are not for the fans - I am a huge PJ fan, but it offers nothing new, don't think I'll be getting it.

I think its epic releasing on there own, Lost dogs was the last album that was released with there permission(a fine collection of b-sides and rarities at that) and that was supposed to be the last. I think this is epic trying to make as much money as they can from the band now that they are almost out of contract and Pearl Jam are refusing to make any more albums for them. As it goes, i'll burn all of these onto a couple of cd's and have my own greatest hits set with some of my favourite songs on it as well

Greatest hit albums are great ways for artists to fulfil contracts with record labels.
Robbie has released two albums on his current EMI deal. One was a rat pack covers album, the other his greatest hits thats about to be released! |
