I meant to say if I saw someone hitting my cat. I'm not saying its right but I treat my cats like family members. I would react the same if I saw a car hitting, say, my brother. Of course I would then accept the legal consequences.

still think that makes you an idiot be angry yes but an accident is an accident, i can understand wanting to hit someone if they purposely tried to run over your cat or your brother but if they stepped into the path of oncoming traffic not giving the driver enough time to respond its their own fault and the driver would probably be distraught enough without you gunning for them, it's plain nasty imo

Your cat is not human. Nobody cares about your cat. Cant beleive that you will gladly kill a human being if your cat ran into the road and underneath someones car.

"Nobody cares about your cat." You are aware that this is a pet forum, aren't you? It's people like you that nobody cares about.

It may be a pet forum but when a poster says that he would gladly hurt a human being then all bets are off. Shame on a pet forum that allows a poster to openly say that they would in effect kill a human being or their childrenfor accidently running over a cat.

Fair enough but if someone killed a family member of yours you would not want some kind of revenge? Especially if they drove off without calling the police (which they have to for people and dogs but not cats)

an accident is an accident and as much as i love my dog and my cat, i accept that my cat may end up being run over it is a fact of life and if it is one you are not capable of facing wiuthout the need to hurt another human being you should keep your cat indoors or not own one it makes you sound quite unstable imo

Legally people dont have to report hitting a cat but am sure a lot of people also would try to find an owner or take it to vet to get scanned.

No i can not vindicate human violence over an accident, if you could prove someone had committed the act on purpose it would be a different matter.

Unfortunately you cannot compare the running over of a cat which is a likely occurence to a human

no but that could be the repuscussions of your actions and that would hardly fit with someone acidentally running over a cat.

Frankly your response has made me wonder whether if i accidentally ran over a cat whether i would now stop and try to find the owner, knowing that they could be violent i am now thinking i wouldnt risk it

Absolutely!!!!. Cat owners on DS have notoriously said that they will run over a child to avoid a cat. You only have to see other threads in the past for confirmation. There are many of them around. Dont ever make the mistake of knocking on doors to find the owner of a cat that has decided to come under the wheels of your car. You could be killed for your good deeds.

IF someone accidentally ran over my cat, I would have to accept that it had happened and that would be sad, but acceptable. What wasn't acceptable was the time that my cat crossed the road and two ladies in a car came speeding down the road, far too fast, saw the cat and swerved into it.

Was too worried about my cat to call the police to be fair and thank God he was a big boned bugger and survived (for many many years) being bounced across the road.

As to the OP. When I drive to work each day there is so much wildlife on the road that has been involved in accidents and it is upsetting. I don't blame you for calling someone. Especially if that cat wasn't dead, and was just injured and in pain.

Dogs yes, but it is only guidance and not a criminal offence not to report a hit of a dog

Cats are not that important to warrant a reporting to the police.
”

All animals are as, if not more, important than humans.
