Will One direction crack America?
I think simon hopes they will have success like justin bieber and be the next "big thing".

thoughts?

A Disney TV show would certainly help them. It seems all the US tween stars have all originated from that stable.

I wouldn't be surprised if they did, but it'll take a lot of work. Even with Simon Cowell behind them.

I personally think they can. They have apparently been signed to Island Def Jam. They have L.A Reid behind them; and lets not forget he's the one who singed Bieber.

And they are doing a tour in the States next year so who knows. They have a good a chance as anyone so please don't get your hopes up that they will bomb just yet

They're touring with Big Time Rush in the USA, so that will probably test the waters as far as what kind of reception they'd get.

Musically, I don't know. I just don't get it. But it may not matter if they're able to successfully sell THEMSELVES to the point that the music becomes secondary...or tertiary.

LOL. No. Seems like boybands are dead in the US. They also will be destroyed by the US given how bad their performances and singing are. They really still struggle to sing and look awkward.

Umm... L.A. Reid is out of Def Jam so he can do X Factor and head a Sony label.

I think you are talking about The Wanted, who was rumored to have signed with Island Def Jam. Since 1D is already signed to Syco, which is under Sony, this does not make any sense at all.

Have you been reading the Sun, Daily Star, and/or Mirror again.

Well Big Time Rush are hardly impacting America... they have like 6 songs that reached 100-something on the charts
One Direction are a manufactured boyband and wont get far

I actually disagree. I think One Direction have a fairly good chance of doing well over there. They are young and very good looking. I think the teenage girls there are going to go crazy for their British accents.

BTR may not be on the level of the Black Eyed Peas, but they're on Season 3 of a fairly successful TV show. They're not impacting the charts, but have certainly carved out a nice core following of 6-14 year old boys and girls that worship them.

Mind you, I'd prefer that 1D stayed in the UK. Not a fan of their music, and don't think that their style has much to offer to the current American charts. My inclination is to say that they won't make much of an impact in the US market in any way, but have to give their management props for a very smart entry point.
