HMV's Gennaro Caraldo is quoted in the Sunday Mail today about One Direction - "They have the potential to be one of the first billion dollar groups."

But you are correct in that they did have their heads screwed on.

1D will probably have a standard 360 degree contract as mentioned previously on this forum and all though there will be a big chunk going to others I am sure there will be plenty left for them
Yes the Girls were already with Simon Fuller when the bidding wars began with the record companies.

However, the girls had already negotiated a contract with Simon Fuller themselves meaning that they kept ultimate control over the group.

How else were they legally able to simply fire him?
One Direction or other manufactured bands are knee deep in a concrete contract and have to do as they are told.
They couldn't simply 'fire' anyone, especially their manager. That is my point.

Obviously Simon Fuller then helped to negotiate contracts for the girls with the record companies. It was kind of his job lol.

As for Simon Fuller being a 'pretty useless manager'.... I really have no words!
He is probably the most successful manager in the entertainment business of the last 50 years.
If it wasn't for Simon Fuller the Spice Girls wouldn't have become the biggest pop group in the world.

They would have been a successful pop group, because there was a gap in the market, but he made them a global phenomenon.

am i the only one sitting here nonplussed about who gets the most out of the total earnings? as twingle said... with the amount they're earning and about to earn from records, merchandising and gigs, even a small percentage of each would be big when added up...

as zayn always says in interviews, he just went to the auditions to see how it would go... and now we all see how far indeed he'd gone!! within two years he's bought a £2.2M house in london and is currently performing with his friends to thousands of adoring fans every night!!

we also have to consider that it was the show that created the group!! without x factor, 1D wouldn't have met and united as a band... the producers might have selected a different boy so each member's loyalty and gratitude is in the right place!! *that 1D might have fared differently with different group members is beside the point*

* * *

that people have to compare them nowadays to the superlative (eg highest earning pop group...) i take as a high compliment indeed!!

Ok we can disagree on that one! It was SF's brilliant idea to take two entirely different style of singers and performers and put them together as a duo just because they gelled as mates. That was a mega big disaster. I am talking about Sam and Mark from pop idol2 . And the girls themselves said he was a useless manager hence why they sacked him

I am with you on that one. If they hadn't come together they would right now all still be at college/uni (Liam training to be a fire fighter?) so even if they are on 30,000 a year that will be mega bucks compared to their school contemporaries and I agree all of them are very grateful to be where they are knowing they got lucky on the day 5 boys were chosen and also doing what they all love and actually getting paid for it when I am sure they would do it for nothing if there was no other choice

a-ha! i saw the foetus one, lolz but they didn't say one dimension this time...

instead they captioned JB's photo with : "One Dimental: Bieber has been "chilling out" with 1D"

but they were as quick to define the term.. apparently it meant: superfan... describing bieber as a 1D superfan, lolz!!

Bieber just wouldn't work, tbh. It'd just be like an extra member of the group - more likely to be a girl (maybe a rapper but I doubt they'll go down that road yet!). If there is a duet I'd put my money on Demi Lovato.

That would work, and she is popular with the teens.

thank you texas!!

1D does dallas and get favourable review:

http://www.pegasusnews.com/news/2012...refscroll=1958

To wit:

"The decibel of the thousands of screams that erupted once the guys hit the stage was unimaginable: Earplugs did nothing. Clad in complimentary white and red polos, tees, and khakis, the five Brits seemed blown away yet prepared for the massive crowd. Their smooth vocals sounded surprisingly strong and steady, traits that don’t come easy for new artists stepping out on their first international tour. With a backing band and a massive video screen supporting the group, they were able to stride and pose around the stage with ease. There was no choreography or set routine here; slight hand motions and smiles were all they needed to win these girls' hearts.

"They're widely set apart from today’s pop singers by using little to no auto-tune. The crooners can hold their own vocally, which speaks wonders to their authenticity."

Boys, you've come far to earn those...
