Tulisa didn't actually say she didn't know the song.

I didn't know that version either, much prefer Aretha's version.

I've got to say I'm glad Kelly didn't choose to respond to that because it would have made Tulisa look incompetent regarding music knowledge.

Aretha Franklin, The Blues Brothers, not to mention many cover versions........dear oh dear!
I thought her comment (and her smile) spoke volumes and was quite cutting, but probably over T's head

I'm near Tulisa's age and I've never heard of it either, didn't realise you have to have heard of everything song ever made to be able to have to have an opinion.

It's the fact that she keeps showing herself up, she simply has no idea.

Difference is though goo-goo and Anna-Chloe, with the greatest of respect, you two aren't earning squillions for judging a singing competition...that requires at least a modicum of musical knowledge across a range of genres, current and historic!! Sitting their saying 'I've never heard of that' when it's one of the biggest female artists of all time's biggest songs really isn't very acceptable!!

I disagree, I don't think she's shown her self up at all, if any one keeps showing themselves up it's Gary Barlow.

It's a classic. A motown classic. For a mentor to say that it wasn't a well known song is just plain dumb.

Most of us seem to know that, but a couple are still insisting she didn't say it....!!!

Saying that she hasn't heard of one of Aretha Franklin's biggest songs is showing herself up MASSIVELY!!! If it were a really old song from a lesser artist, I could understand it, but Aretha is a legend. The musical genre that Tulisa now represents can trace its roots back to artists like Aretha and Stevie Wonder and going back a bit further to Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald and all the other American pioneers of R n B in the 50's and 60's. For her to not know this song is what I think you might call an 'Epic Fail'!!

Maybe she doesn't like motown, she's young and I'm guessing that song is very old. It might be a motown classic, but it's not a song which most people her age would have heard of. I get that she's a mentor and in the music industry, but I don't think that means she has to have heard every single song from every genre.

I can't believe she's never heard that song before. She probably doesn't know who Aretha Franklin is either. That's how out of touch she is. And she just looked the idiot saying it's not well known.

No. It was a serious epic fail on her behalf. Trust me.

I'm 20 and well aware of Aretha and her music. For someone claiming to be able to judge others about music it seems a little farfetched that she's never heard of her most famous song.

Agree, considering the genre she's in, it's pretty insulting.

I don't agree, I listen to a lot of different types of music, past and present, granted not so much stuff from the 50's and 60's and I've never heard that song before.

I know tons of music from every era, but I haven't heard of the song, either, although I recognised the chorus.

she's in the music industry and she's a judge on a music show ... she should have a broad knowledge of music old and new and across all genres

Think is a classic by a music industry legend .. it was used in Bridget Jones' Diary and the Halifax advert ... there's no excuses for someone in her position

I wasn't born when Frank Sinatra had all his hits but I've heard of them ... age isn't an excuse

To admit it on National TV has just shown her up bigtime ... there are numerous comments on Twitter from music journos and other singers pulling her up on it

"Most famous" song might be stretching it just a tad! Respect or Who's Zoomin' Who would top it. If Tulisa hadn't heard of those I'd be sick.

Yeah the chorus sounded very familiar to me as well, just googled the song and it got to number 26 on the UK singles charts, so hardly a massive hit over here like people are making out!
