Oh my gosh - what a terrible night.

My brother runs a garage and somebody came to him a couple of weeks ago and asked him if he wanted a kitten - he said not particular and the woman said - okay then I'll just leave him here!

My brother couldn't just leave him so we asked my daugher if she wanted it and she said yes.

They really loved him and called him Ted and he was the friendliest, sweetest little thing ever.

Black with white paws and little white feet.

Tonight my son in law was coming down the stairs and the kitten was on the stairs and it tripped him up and made him fall down the stairs - as he fell he fell on the kitten..

... they rushed him to the vet but the kitten was really crying and then he had a fit in the car and died before they got there.

My daughter and son in law are inconsolable.

They are so upset. I have tried to comfort my son in law but he's just so upset.

I can't believe this has happend. The only thing my husband and I could do was to bring the kitten home and bury him in the garden.

We have just come from their house and my son in law won't stop crying. My daughter has tried to make him feel better but he says "there's nothing you can say - I've just killed our kitten.

I can't believe how sad it is.

How absolutely awful for him, all of you and the little kitten, I'm so sorry. He must feel really bad but it was an accident he didn't do it on purpose. I think this will take him a long time to get over, poor man. At least the little kitty was well loved in its short time.

I'm always scared for our kitten, I'm super protective.

Poor kitten you have to be so careful when you have kittens and pups. Several times we have accidentally tripped over our puppy but luckily we've never hurt him.

That is so awful for all of you.

There but for the grace of god go many of us. My two little explorers have tripped me up more times than I care to remember and often I have thought just an inch to one side and I could have fallen on you.

Thats a terrible accident and it was just that an accident, but nothing anyone says to the poor guy is going to make him feel any better at the moment.

Oh my goodness how awful for you all, but it could happen to any of us, I fall a lot and our dogs have learned to move quick but I am very aware I have been dreadfully lucky so far.

That is very sad, but it was an accident and hopefully in time your son in law will see that. As has been said, it could happen to any one of us. I have at times, just in the nick of time, avoided similar things, and caused injury to myself. It happens, and as devestating as it is, it was an accident. My heart goes out to them.

The only thing to do is get them another kitten. It is the only thing that will console them.

That is just one of those tragic accidents that can't be helped. Not a lot you can say. He must be eaten up with guilt

Yes, my husband thinks this.

We just took them both to the rspca and they have reserved two kittens that need a home - a brother and sister.

I know it seems a bit soon but I think that it's so sad that they are here with all this love to give to a kitten adn there are so many needing homes.

Still incredibly sad though - we've got so many other things going on right now...

daughter's been diagnosed with fredrich's ataxyia and then she was made redundant, I might be made redundant tomorrow at work, my brother's business got burned to the ground and my husband is in trouble with his vat - the kitten was one really bright spot in all of this.

my son in law is the nicest man you could ever meet as well and he wouldnt' hurt a fly. it was so hard to see him crying like a little boy yesterday over this.

Sorry to hear of your troubles. As regards the VAT, the HMRC are very helpful and, as long as your husband hasn't been deliberately fiddling his VAT, you will find that they will be understanding.

We lost our dog in a RTA four years ago and both of us were totally devastated. We got another puppy two weeks later and he was such a great help to us getting over the tragedy.

Oh bless his heart, that could have happened to anyone. I'm always tripping over my cats and dogs, standing on their paws, walking straight into them etc. Just be glad that your son in law didn't injure himself too. I'm sorry to hear about your troubles OP, I hope everything changes for the better for you all soon.

Oh! Something similar happened to me as a child. Our cat had recently given birth to a few kittens, one of which was pure black. One day me and my mum came home, and. We entered all the lights were off. I trod on something very soft and on turning the lights on realised it was the black kitten. It died shortly after.

It's not something you will really forget but in time he'll learn to cope and realise that it was just a a very unfortunate accident. My thoughts are with you all xx
