Looks like they can't win either way then, eh? Should they just stay quiet after Janet's performance then?

The OP's point is right tho.

The best way for the judges to minimize any possible positive impact on the vote for a contestant due to their comments is to issue across-the-board faint praise. That way, they don't "big up that act" and they don't trigger the "oh darn, X is in danger, we better vote more" scenario, and most of all, they don't trigger a sympathy vote.

It doesn't mean that act will go out. But it does mean the judges are doing their best to create a scenario where less votes might be generated for an act.

Lol

So you would be complaing if they condemn her and say its crap and complain if they praise her as its tactics to make people not vote for as she will be safe...

Is this a joke thread?

Damned if they do, damned if they don't.

Jeez, talk about paranoid. Any other conspiracy theories you'd like to share with us?

Previous posts this week by Hayden have been This Morning (or Daybreak) being in a conspiracy to snub Janet.

Some of you either do not watch the show or want to be contrary for the sake of it. His point was clear. The judges can choose to do whatever they want, and in some cases, it clearly appears staged or agreed-upon before hand as to what their reactions are.

My comments are not about any specific contestant, they could be about ANY contestant.

- Huge praise
- Faint praise
- Criticize
- Massively criticize / rip apart.

Those are your options.

In many ways, "faint praise" across the board is actually the best way to stop an act being talked about and to generate the least traffic / column inches / chatter etc. Think about it.

Faint Praise usually does lead to being left without voters - however the OP clearly stated they praised to lull into a full sense of security.

So if they said it was crap he would've complained they dont like her and condemn her.

Having seen the show - they gave big praise, not faint praise.

So my point still stands - the judges could've said anything and Hayden would've complained

Well that pretty much covers all the options available so still not getting your point here. What would you like them to say to the contestants that isn't covered above?

Nah, Louis aside, both Janet got very faint praise.

For big praise (overpraise), see Marcus.

Yes, they're trying the softly, softly approach now. The old kill a contestant with kindness routine. It fools no one.

Agree with the OP, on X Factor they try all sorts.

The judges might aswell be glass they are so see-through.
Gary especially seems like he'll be willing to say anything to benefit his own acts.

Which Gary proved when he admitted to lying about Frankie's performances.

They're just not very good actors, nor would they make good poker players.

This is a highly political show. The producers and Syco will know exactly who they want in the final. They very carefully choose their comments well. This is not a pure and innocent talent contest. They have a lot of money to lose if they don't get the right 'artists' signed and Janet is clearly not on their wishlist. I think to be cynical (not paranoid) is a purely acceptable approach to take on this. All of the Misha circus that was put on last night during her VT, and what did Janet get? The wardrobe lady telling us how 'difficult' she was to dress.
