Not sure if this was already posted or if this is the right place.

Don't think many people will still have these but you can send it back and get a replacement if you do

Here is the article

http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology...?newsfeed=true

iPod nano (1st generation) Replacement Program page

http://www.apple.com/support/ipodnano_replacement/

I put in my serial number and they are sending something for me to send it back in. can take 6 weeks

Mine's already in the post to them. The turn around time seems to be a lot less than 6 weeks.
They send you al ittle cardboard box, some bubble wrap and a prepaid bag to post it in.
You'll get a refurb of the same model back.

I got a padded envelope and a plastic pre paid bag.

I hope it doesn't take long. I love my iPod. Defo good value for money imo.

I'm still waiting for mine

They said right at the start it's about 6 weeks. So it's likely to be january.

"Want a free iPod nano?"

err it was quite right I suppose.

Anyone got their replacement yet?
If so, which model was it?

No, it's likely to be january and you'll get back exactly the same version you sent them.

Have you got anything official to base that on?
It could be said that if this had been the case, Apple would have said so, as this would mean less people would bother sending their Nanos back, and the whole process would be cheaper for Apple.

Apple said right at the start you get back the same model.

You won't be getting a new touch screen nano if that's what you're thinking.

All I'm thinking is that I haven't seen anything from Apple stating what they'd be replacing them with!

A quick bit of googling finds that a few people have had them back and they are exactly what they sent out for repair. 1st gen nanos.

Err, ok, but you just said it would likely be January!

Care to share some links for those that have had theirs back already?

Apple said up to six weeks.
Most people didn't send them back until the first week of december so it's only 3 weeks for them.
People who spotted the recall early and applied early got theirs back to apple before the end of november and 'some' of those have got them back.

Here's one
http://www.macrumors.com/2011/11/17/...-now-arriving/

I also found a post from someone in Nottingham who also had a 1st gen nano back already.

A bit more searching though and I found 2 people claiming the serial number of the return shipping ipod is a 6th gen one (but they haven't been delivered yet). So who knows. Maybe we'll get new ones after all. Maybe they got more back than they thought and above a certain level the economics worked out in favour of new ones instead. Not sure how that would work as they come in lots of colours and I wouldn't want a pink one!

Then again they may have just been issued new serial numbers which haven't been updated as older models.

We'll find out in a couple of weeks eh.

Surely if its not "caught fire" in use since 2005. it wont be a risk?

But can you imagine the law suits if it did and they knew about it and decided not to fix it.

Material cost of the battery will be no more than $1.

It is the handling and reassembly that costs so its possible they sailed on board a ship back to China.

Thanks for the link - as you'll say, we'll have to wait and see.

I find it strange, as it specifically says you will receive a "replacement unit", and no mention that it would be a 1st gen.

I've noticed that the Guardian article has now been updated to say that it will be a 1st gen - can't help but think this whole exercise would have been cheaper for Apple if they had said that themselves initially, as I'm sure many who've sent theirs back for repair may not have bothered.

They changed their story and possibly even deleted comments.
The Daily Mail left theirs intact.

As we know Apple do not do interviews so media reports of anything Apple are always rather skewiff.

People started supposedly getting replacements in the US 4 weeks ago so it might be a sensible xmas PR exercise.

Why would someone expect a brand new replacement model?

Often it is cheaper to replace a six year old product wth a later (or latest) model, rathen than to source spair parts for something that is no longer manufactured.

I have been following mac rumours threads and many people have stated they received the 6g. I'm not bothered what I get as long as its soon. I requested service on the 15 November. Been stuck at pending since 25th.
