Why do cats like to give massages?

I guess its boredom?

Nah, I think it's a comforting throwback memory to when they were kits; the 'palping' action would encourage milk-flow from mum. My littlest one 'kneads' my arm all the time and nuzzles it, purring, though she must know by now that no milk results!

Yep. It often implies the cat was taken from its mother too soon. Especially if the cat also sucks on clothing.

They're tenderising us to soften up the meat.

My little ones knead everything, it's so cute.

I have been woken up before by one on my back giving me a bit of a massage!

My OH calls it "making bread" which makes the whole thing even cuter. 'The kitten is trying to make bread on me again'.

Yep. To bring mum's nipple out.

Tell me about it. My arm is so TORE UP from little madam, I look like a junkie. She's 2 and a half now, shows no sign of stopping and of course throws a major tantrum if in any danger of getting her claws clipped. *Sigh*.

It's just a comforting action. It stimulates milk flow when they do it to their mothers when they're feeding, and I guess this is just a sign that they accept you as a parent I guess. Fortunately, they won't do it to me unless I've got the duvet on my legs because they know I don't like claws being dug into my thigh, but my wife seems completely immune to their claws and doesn't mind them doing it.

My Toby does this to me, but he has absolutely huge claws.

I am recovering from surgery at the mo, and have had to resort to locking him and the others, out of my bedroom at night, purely so I can heal up minus additional claw work.

Toby has taken deep offence at this, and now sleeps on the chest freezer instead. When I go in the kitchen, he actually turns his back on me!

(I think I am in deep disgrace!)
